AN ART NOUVEAU WMF (WUERTTEMBERGISCHE METALLWAREN FABRIK) ICE WATER CRYSTAL JUG, GERMANY, EARLY 20TH CENTURY of tapering cylindrical form, the lower half cut with linear and diamond decoration, the mount moulded and chased on each side with the figure of a knight holding his sword, the angular handle with Celtic motif and the hinged domed cover with ball and conforming Celtic decorated finial, interior fitted with a central ice chamber, 38,5cm high

A mixed group of bronze fragments comprising: a serrated crown or headband section with serration on both edges of the curved band; ten fragments of various types. 134 grams total, 36-69mm (1 1/2 - 2 3/4"). The Chris Rudd collection, Norfolk, UK; formed since the 1970s; collection numbers BA23 and 24; found various sites in Lincolnshire, UK. Chris Rudd has collected ancient coins and antiquities since the 1940s. As an amateur archaeologist he found many himself at Badbury Rings, Dorset, 1952-53. He also dug at Hod Hill with Professor Sir Ian Richmond and at Wroxeter with Dame Kathleen Kenyon and Dr Graham Webster. Today he is best known as a Celtic coin dealer. His catalogues have been described as ‘an important research source’ by Professor Sir Barry Cunliffe and ‘treasure houses of delight’ by Dr Anne Ross. Coins and artefacts associated with Chris Rudd – as a collector, dealer and valuer – can be seen in The British Museum and other museums. This collection was formed since the 1970s.
