Ten of Diamonds. Anthony Frost. Acrylic on Hessian - Scrim and Arches paper. Signed verso, unframed, 18cm x 12.8cm. Anthony Frost Biography - 1951 Born St Ives, Cornwall 1970 73 Cardiff College of Art (BA Honours, Fine Art) From 1970 1973 Anthony Frost studied at the Cardiff College of Art gaining a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. Since then he has exhibited widely throughout the UK, with regular shows in St Ives and London, and has also lectured at Falmouth School of Art, Canterbury School of Art and various universities throughout the country. He works from a studio near Penzance, and is a prominent member of the artistic community of West Cornwall and beyond. Noted for his abstract works consisting of brightly coloured prints and collages, Anthonys paintings include repeated motifs (lines, triangles and dots) and a mix of materials (acrylic, hessian, sail cloth, string and any other materials that come to hand). Although there is a degree of planning in each work, there is also an essential random chance element which manifests itself as the creative process progresses adding a piece of material or making a mark that can change the paintings direction in unforeseen ways. Anthony Frost has played an important role in the fundraising activities of Transplant Links, acting as auctioneer in TLC's very first auction over a decade ago. When starting a painting I dont know the problems I will have to deal with until the painting is well on the go and the secret (for me) is to keep the whole thing on the boil right to the end, so the finished work has that feeling of excitement, speed and danger. I try to take all of my paintings to the edge it is a voyage of discovery, full of surprises, problems, accidents, (happy accidents that I use to my advantage) and decisions, which all have to be resolved in some crazy way. I attempt with colour and marks to create my own space, rhythms, weight, speed and volume. A great inspiration to me while Im painting is music, especially music by The Fall and Captain Beefheart. I want the visual equivalent of an aural sensation!!! BUNNAHABHAIN 1976 33 YEAR OLD JIM MCEWAN'S CELTIC HEARTLANDS ISLAY SINGLE MALT Distilled: 1976Bottled: 2010Matured in Fino Sherry casks and finished in Chateau D'Yquem casksBottle Number: 96 / 46549% ABV / 70cl Purpose built in 1881 by William Baxter, Bunnahabhain distillery on the northeast coast of Islay featured housing for its workers, as well as its own pier for ease of transporting whisky and materials to and from the mainland. As with most distilleries, much of its life was spent producing blending stock, but in the late 1980s it began to appear as a single malt. Initially this single malt output was mostly sherry matured and so lightly peated as to be barely perceptible, placing Bunna’ firmly in the minority of Islay whiskies. However, since its takeover by Distell in 2013 around 20% of the spirit produced there is now heavily peated, with these expressions bearing the name “Moine” (the Gaelic word for peat).
