Oscar Bach an Art Deco German American 1884-1957 silvered bronze figural lamp modelled as four naked men supporting a circular dish stamped, with signature and foundry mark, 51.5 cm including glass shade. Oscar Bruno Bach, designer craftsman, started his career in his native Germany, one of his early designs a prayer book cover for Pope Pius, remains in the Vatican permanent collection. he won the Grand Prix at the World Exhibition in Turin in 1911. From 1911 to his death he lived in New York , where he set up his studio, exhibiting regularly at the Metropolitan Museum of Industrial Art. His work appears in the Empire State building, the Rockefeller Centre, the Chrysler Building. The form of the telamon figures seen in the lamp stems from a design for a pair of monumental bronze lanterns that were designed for the New York Department of Health building in 1932 Glass shade in good order base in good order light scratches some ware to the plate, some tarnishing
