Click here to subscribeA JAPANESE DAGGER. A Tanto dagger with unsigned blade, and lacquered scabbard with a kozuka present. Lightly decorated Fuchi & Kashira with ropework Tsuba, saya lacking chafe. The blade is 19thC 8.1/2"" in length with the very tip missing, , copper habaki with single insect menuki in the tsuka. The string binding to the hilt is partial, 15.1/2"" overall length.
Japanese Sword Shin-Gunto. Blade 26.5"". Long slim hilt 11"". Iron Tsuba with simple decoration. In its lacquered wood scabbard with WW2 field service, leather cover over. Sword bears much service wear and could be of some age. Cloth bound same with rayskin. Single asti. A nice original item. Viewing recommended.
Japanese WW2 sword SHIN-GUNTO type 98. Blade 22"" with press button scabbard release. Pierced Tsuba. Light brown ? over rayskin same with gilt menuki. Single ashi. In its wooden saya with a leather field service cover (centre section leather cover worn with losses). Saya in good condition. Overall a decent WW2 example of a Shin-Gunto.
An early twentieth century Japanese lacquered table cabinet. The top section with sliding doors is raised over a central cupboard revealing a bank of six drawers over a single drawer to the base. Decorated with figures in landscapes, flowers and with tsuba medallions to the sides. 55cm high, 55cm wide, 26cm deep. Condition Report. To be used as a guide only. Probably originally with a stand. Missing a sliding door. Some loss to the applied work.
A JAPANESE CHOSHU SCHOOL IRON TSUBA of rounded square form, modelled with six pierced shells around the central plate, signed Choshu Kawaji saku, late 18th/early 19th century, 2.75"" across. Robert E. Haynes records this tsuba artist in his ""Index of Japanese Sword Fittings and Associated Artists"", vol. I, page 615, no. H02969.0.
