A JAPANESE IRON TSUBA by Naomasa, of rounded form, carved in the Choshu style, one side worked in relief with a courtier and attendant beside a fence, with the moon beyond, the other side showing a landscape scene, some details in gold and shakudo takazogan, signed, circa 1800, 3.25" long. Robert Haynes lists a tsuba artist of the same name being active around 1800 and it seems likely that this work is by the same hand. See his "Index of Japanese Sword Fittings and Associated Artists", Volume II, p.1327.

A JAPANESE OFFICERS SWORD. A Kai Gunto Japanese Naval Officers or Naval Pilots sword, with 20.3/4" unsigned blade. With oval iron Tsuba and one character possibly Idsumi province (Kanai) stamped on it. The seppu have the same or a naval arsenal mark stamping, also the sunray pattern decoration. Black lacquered wooden saya, with two hanging mounts.
