A Handachi, 63.4cm blade with one mekugi-ana and full length hi, signed Katsumitsu, fully bound tsuka with shibuichi fuchi and kabuto-gane, engraved with clouds and applied with characters in gold, soft metal menuki, iron mokko shaped tsuba with brass inlaid decoration, in its black lacquered saya with shibuichi mounts decorated en-suite, Shinto. (See lot 311 for illustration).
A Katana, 79.5cm blade with two mekugi-ana, midare hamon, signed, fully bound tsuka with shakudo nanako fuchi and kabuto gane decorated with flowering branches with gold details, shakudo and gilt floral menuki, circular iron tsuba chiselled with a figure and a frog within a landscape, with soft metal details, in its striped black lacquered saya with leather combat cover, Shinto. A good Japanese tanto, 28.5cm unsigned blade, bound with shibuichi manako fuchi kashira decorated with dragons in clouds, iron tsuba, the rim decorated with gold foliage, the saya lacquered to imitate bark with three flies and mounted ensuite, complete with kodzuka and kogai of shakaudo namaka decorated in gold and silver with butterflies and prunus blossom. (late Edo period)
A Scottish Skean Dhu with short steel blade, the handle carved in plaited form and the terminal set with a brown stone, leather and plated metal covered scabbard, 7.75ins overall, a Japanese steel Tsuba, 2.75ins diameter, two tortoiseshell bladed paperknives with silvery metal mounted handles, 8.5ins and 10ins, and a plain ivory paperknife, 14.5ins (tip altered)
