A Japanese World War II sword, of traditional design with bound sharkskin grip, flower head mounts including tsuba, 67.5cm curved blade with leather service scabbard, also a socket bayonet and English kit bag.The property of 89743 Sgt Plant FS, with original 'Japanese Trophies' certificate dated 1945, listing the sword and bayonet. The kit bag belonged to Sgt Plant.Wear and markings to the scabbard. Cannot remove the grip to show the tang and press stud does function. The scabbard does not seem out of shape or dented. The blade has slight chipping along the cutting edge near the top - see images. The cutting edge from the point to the top of the metal guard is 66cm. The length of the blade to the metal guard is 65cm.

A Japanese wakizashi, the tang signed Yoshitake, the 54.5cm blade inscribed to the tang, ‘Izumo Daijo Fujiwara Yoshitake’ possibly for Yoshitake of Musashi province using the first of the 3 forms of his signature recorded in Hawley YO 557, the reverse with nengo ’Tenna or Tenwa’ possibly for the period (1681-84), with 19th century mixed metal and bronze tsuba, kashira, fuchi, menuchi and kurigata, lacquered saya, the gilt metal kozuka with signed blade***CONDITION REPORT***Some oxidisation and rust patches to the blade. The various mountings are of mixed manufacture and material, some wear to the gilding on the tsuba, The cord on the handle has come loose. JAPANESE WWII-PERIOD SHIN-GUNTO,the fullered steel blade stamped 70430, over a bronze tsuba, and a cast metal simulated silk bound shagreen grip, 92cm long, with original scabbardCondition generally fair. The blade with degree of pitting, nibbles and bites to edge; would benefit from overall clean. General age and use related wear throughout. The grip appears to have possibly been overpainted in a silver colour. The scabbard has been covered in black tape. Additional images now available.Press stud functions.Scabbard is in poor condition, have removed one section of tape and will need thorough clean upon all being removed. Serial number on scabbard mouthpiece matches blade. Nu,bet of small dents and dings to scabbard.Blade straight despite damages,The scabbard is slightly bent to left, though blade sits fine within.
