Japanese Sword Wakizashi, blade 50.4cms, mumei, 2 mekugi ana, gunome and mimigata hamon with distinct nie, tape bound same tsuka, shakudo fuchi kashira with gilt Chidori (mis-matched), iron sukashi tsuba, in its black lacquered saya with leather ‘combat’ cover. Good condition, the sword has been well re-furbished, blade with kizu well refinished.

A Japanese Shin Shinto Wakizashi, the 38.5cm unsigned blade with undulating hamon, two piece polished horn habaki, the ivory tsuba carved as a flattened chrysanthemum head and incised with undulating tendrils, the Japanese Rosewood tsuka with ivory kashira carved as a maiden and the fuchi carved with mons and tendrils, with matching Japanese Rosewood saya with signed blade to the inset kozuka, the whole with shibyama type decoration of frog on a water lily, stylised turtles, seed pods and leaves in coloured hardstones and mother of pearl, with dragon carved ivory kurikata and maiden carved kojiri, with pale gold coloured cord and tassels, 56.5cm. Tang of blade is unsigned. Small areas of delamination and black patches with nicks to edge of blade. The saya is missing a piece of inlay to one side, the opposing side is missing the mount to the mouth of the slot for the kozuka. Lovely quality.

Lot 108

A Late 19th Century Japanese Ivory Tanto, the 18cm blade with almost horizontal hamon and one piece copper habaki, with scroll carved small ivory tsuba, the ivory tsuka and sectional ivory saya well carved with battle scenes, with red cord and tassels, 38.5cm. Areas of delamination to the blade, with some pitting. The saya is of three sections which have been later glued at the joins, the upper section has an age crack. Repaired at some time in its life.

A Japanese Shinto Wakizashi, the 50cm blade with almost horizontal hamon, the tang signed Nio Kiyotsugu, with one piece copper habaki, iron tsuba of rippled circular form inlaid with maple leaves and tendrils, with unbound same grip, plain copper fuchi and kashira and black lacquer saya, 68cm. Some delamination marks. Small nicks to edge of blade and some uneveness towards the tip. Same (rayskin) is split and lacks its binding. The saya has small scratches and is lacking the kozuka.
