A JAPANESE KATANA, fabric bound ray skin handle with Menuki, a blossom decorated steel Tsuba, the saya has a matching end piece to the handle knop, curving blade to Tsuba 69cmCondition report: Scabbard – There is a piece missing there’s a groove that may have held some decorative panel, 3cm x 1cm and 7cm down from the opening, there are some dents and scuffs to the leather coating 21cm / 22cm, up from base of scabbard there’s a damaged , surface losses. Sword – the blade a bit pitted, not rusty, some corrosion to Tsuba, the handle binding has a shiny patina from handling, and some loss near end of handle. There is a split down the shagreen grip on one side there is no handle securing peg, when remove handle, Tang is corroded but inscriptions visible.

THREE JAPANESE GOLD INLAID SHAKUDO TSUBA EDO AND MEIJI PERIOD, 19TH CENTURY The largest of otafuku gata quatrelobed shape with a shakudo fukurin rim, decorated with gold snow flakes on a ground of leafy tendrils in low relief, the cloud-shaped openings with gold rings applied to the rims; the two others of maru gata circular form, the largest with fan-shaped panels variously enclosing waves, flowers and other plants; the smallest tsuba with prunus flowers floating on crashing waves, 7.9cm max. TWO JAPANESE PARCEL-GILT BRONZE TSUBA EDO OR MEIJI PERIOD, 18TH OR 19TH CENTURY Both with a quatrelobed body, the first depicting playing cards from the hyakunin isshu uta karuta game scattered on a ground of chrysanthemum flowers, the other illustrating the story of Choryo and Kosekiko, both with details highlights in gilt, both unsigned, 6.5cm and 6.7cm. (2) Half the cards from a hyakunin isshu uta karuta game set depict famous Japanese poets, and the other half is painted with calligraphy. The aim of the game is to associate the authors with their writings. The other tsuba depicts the story of Choryo and Kosekiko: Choryo was a hero who met an old man named Kosekiko on a bridge. The wise man began to teach him the art of war. One day, Kosekiko decided to test Choryo and threw his shoe into a river where a powerful water dragon lived. The dragon seized the shoe, but Choryo defeated it, and he gave the shoe back to Kosekiko.

With a 47.5cm single edged blade, the Tsuba with scrolling stylized birds heads, the fabric wrapped shagreen handle with gilt highlighted mounts, the black lacquer scabbard decorated with five circulkar 'mon' type details, 68cm overall, the blade probably remounted and has not been removed from the handle.

Attractive Japanese Enamel Decorated Sword in Tach Mounts, blade 46.8cms, mumei (probably not tempered), the hilt, scabbard and tsuba all finely enamelled en-suite with green and grey dragons upon clouds with black background, brass fittings engraved with clouds. Overall including scabbard 72cms. Good condition, some crushing damage to enamel at top of scabbard, bottom scabbard mount kojiri missing.

dating: about 1860 provenance: Japan, Nagasa (38.3 cm) with hamon (gunome, kaninotsume) and hada clearly visible, brass habaki decorated with fine grooves; nakago mumei with a mekugi ana. Beautiful koshirae with tsuba richly pierced, also on the border, and decorated with floral motifs in gold. Fuchi decorated with a tower and mountains partially gilded, kashira in dark horn, menuki with dragons. Tsuka in dark silk. Saya of lacquered wood with dark horn mounts, the upper part with horizontal grooves in light brown lacquer, then smooth and with alternating dark and light brown rings. Ko-katana mei with shakudo kozuka depicting a bear and a dragon among palm trees and cherry trees in partially gilded high relief. The shape of the nakago indicates a period around the beginning of the 16th century. The hamon is similar to Suke Sada (Bizen) which used the Kaninotsume hamon (crab claws), but the type of hamon was also used in other schools at this time. length 56.5 cm.

In a fine vintage Koshirae with copper habaki. Iron Tsuba of Mokko shape, decorated in bas-relief; a big fan on one side, a flying crane, clouds and leaves, on the other side with leaves and some elements with remains of gilding. Shakudo fuchi and shakura with gilded Shishi in relief. Mekugi with branches and flowers, partially gilded. White, ray-skin Same. Antique, mustard-yellow silk Tsuka-ito. Black-lacquered, wooden Saya (a very small missing part at the lacquer). The owner stated that the wakizashi has belonged to his family since the end of the 19th Century. length 79 cm.

Elegant Koshirae with silver Habaki in two pieces. Gilt-metal tsuba (shakudo?), finely decorated in relief with dragons among waves. Fuchi worked and gilded en suite with waves, as well as the kashira. Silver Menuki. White, yay-skin Same. Antique, blue Tsuka-ito. Saya in fine, smooth, dark lacquer with gold-veined elements. Gilt-metal Kojiri en suite with the other parts, with waves in relief. Complete with Kogai and Kogatana. The owner stated that the wakizashi has belonged to his family since the end of 19th Century. length 70,3 cm.

dating: Period (1603-1867) provenance: Japan, Wakizashi with shinogi-zukuri blase (41.3 cm nagasa, needs cleaning, some small spikes at the tip), with slightly visible Hamon and Hada. Nakago Mumei with a Mekigu-ana. Katana with Shinogi-zukuri blade (58,2 cm nagasa, some small spike at the edges, needs cleaning). Nakago with a Mekugi-ana. Mei: Bishu Osafune ju nin Yokoyama kozuke no Daijo Fujiwara Sukesada. Genroku (ni or san?) Nen Hachi gatsu hi 1688/1703 ( 1689, or 1690 ) (not clearly legible). The two blades assembled in fine vintage Koshirae, decorated en suite: silver-plated metal habaki. Tsuba of Maru Gata shape, made of iron and finely pierced and with remains of gilding. Fuchi and Kashira worked en suite in shakudo with gilded dragons on a background with clouds. Menuki depicting bulls (one missing at the katana). White, ray-skin same. The tsuka-ito of the wakizashi in good conditions, the one of the katana very ruined, both made of silk and coeval. The Saya worked together: half with lacquer (small missing parts), half with fish-skin. Wakizashi complete with Kogatana with Kozuca featuring a relieved Shishi and Kogai with dragon. Epoch: early Edo Period (late 17th - early 18th century). The owner stated that the Daisho has belonged to his family since the late 19th Century. length 57,5 - 82 cm.

Koshirae with tsuba, fuchi and iron, blackened kashira, engraved with dragons and floral motifs, partially in high-relief. Complete with menuki. Wooden saya, lacquered in black, with brown powder, upper part with horizontal grooves. Missing kozuka. length 59.5 cm.

Shakudo Fuchi and kashira with gilded cherry blossoms. White, ray-skin Same. Menuki with relieved tigers. Antique, blue-silk Tsuka-ito. Beautiful Saya, lacquered in bright, reddish color (very small missing parts at the finishing), featuring gold bamboo trees in relief and depicting Daikokuten, a deity of abundance, whose vest is light-blue and with gold drawings. Complete with kozuka with signed kogatana. Epoch mounts and blade of late 19th Century, Edo/Meiji. The owner stated that the tanto has belonged to his family since the end of the 19th Century. length 46 cm.

An unusual version of the Japanese T95 non-commissioned Officer's sword, introduced in 1937. With black leather field service cover and black painted brass hilt. A mounted Koto wakizashi (short sword)The blade by Kanemoto, Muromachi (1333-1573) or Momoyama (1573-1615) period, 16th century; the mounts: Edo period (1615-1868), 19th centuryThe blade of shinogi-zukuri form with torii-zori, chu-gissaki, and mitsu-mune, sanbon-sugi ha of nioi, mokume-hada, midare-komi boshi, the ubu-nakago with one mekugi-ana and higaki file marks, signed Kanemoto; koshira-e (mounts): the saya (scabbard) of roiro lacquer; the shakudo tsuba (sword guard) carved, pierced and inlaid with a village scene by a winding stream; the Mino-Goto kozuka shakudo nanako ('fish-roe' dot pattern), with a man and boy seated in a pavilion admiring chrysanthemums growing by a stream, with rich gilt details; the shakudo fuchi-gashira (matching hilt collar and pommel) carved and inlaid with a nobleman, probably Yoshitsune, playing the flute and his running horse, signed Kusano Hirotsugu tsukuru, with shakudo and gilt-metal menuki (paired hilt ornaments) of flower arrangements; with storage bag, Token Society of Great Britain blade certificate and NTHK certificate for the mounts.
