James Craig Nicoll (New York, California, Connecticut, 1846 - 1918) Etching depicting a coastal seascape with a vessel near the horizon. Pencil Signed lower right. Sight Size: 6.5 x 10.25 in. Overall Size: 11.25 x 14.25 in. Framed behind glass. Nicoll was an Eastern painter who was in San Diego in 1896-97. While there, he painted several views of Catalina Island. He died in Norwalk, CT on July 25, 1918. Member: NA. Exh: NAD, 1867-1900; Mechanics' Inst. Allen studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston under Edmund Tarbell (1862-1938) and Frank Benson (1862-1951), the Art Students? League in New York and studied design with Denman Waldo Ross (1853-1935) at Harvard University.
