Circle of Arnold Boonen (1669-1729) Dutch Portrait of a young gentleman, half-length, in naval attire, view of a seascape with tall-masted ship beyond Oil on canvas, 28.5cm dia. (oval)Provenance: The Austen Hayes Galleries, York Lined onto an oval strainer, fair tension. Vertical old loss 2 inches long right side of hair possible old tear - filled and retouched. Brittle age craquelure throughout, very slightly elevated in thicker passages of paint but mostly flat and all looks stable currently. Scattered tiny pinpoint losses from flaking in the past, many unrestored. Several small scattered minor losses, fairly crudely filled and retouched including a series of small losses to the face (see images). Some abrasion to the delicate upper layers of paint, notably the darks passages, with patches of abrasion evident for example under the sitter's arm, darks of the hair, background upper right and at top edge. Some possible degradation/discolouration to pigments in the draped garment at waist and shoulder. Further scattered minor restoration to background and cracks/losses. Partially cleaned in the past, ingrained old yellowed varnish, a few matt patches in upper varnish layer. A layer of surface dirt.

Oil on canvas seascape painting depicting a low sun hanging over breaking waves. Two seagulls soar just above the water. Signed "Edger" along the lower right. Likely late 20th to early 21st century.Unframed; height: 24 in x width: 36 in. Framed; height: 31 1/4 in x width: 43 1/4 in x depth: 2 1/4 in.Condition: The item is in good condition with no visible tears or creases, or major losses. No visible sign of restoration under UV light. There are areas with paint accretions throughout the sky, original to the piece. Along the upper margin, there is paint loss against the frame; there is a slight gap between the canvas and the frame. Clean verso. Stretcher's keys are missing. Wear to the frame.
