IAN CURTIS ORIGINAL HAND DRAWN ARTWORK ON CANVAS. An impressive pen and ink drawing of Ian Curtis on a 24” x 35” canvas that also features the letter “JOY” stencilled in yellow glitter. Along the edge of the canvas is the Unknown Pleasures CP1919 design in black ink and on the reverse the artist has dedicated the work “To Ian, To Peter Hook & The Light, To Joy Division, To New Order”. This superb piece was left anonymously on stage at one of Peter Hook's shows that he did recently in Las Vegas.

Chirgwin, Fred Karno, Clarice Mayne, Neil Kenyon, Odette Valery, George Formby Snr., Ellaline Terriss, Fanny Fields, Hetty King, Marie Lloyd, George Ali, Bransby Williams, Tom Webster (original signed pen and ink drawing), Dorothy Ward, Ada Reeve, George Robey (in costume as the Queen of Hearts), Albert Chevalier, Kate Carney etc. Some are vintage signed postcard photographs mounted to pages and many pages are multiple signed, some with additional quotations, sentiments, a few drawings etc. The album was evidently previously the property of a touring artiste and many of the signatures are dated 1909-10 and obtained at various theatres including the Empire, Nottingham, Empire, Sunderland, Empire, Edinburgh, Shaftesbury Theatre, Empire, Leeds, Palace Theatre, Camberwell, Gaiety Theatre, Birmingham, Coliseum, Glasgow etc. Some overall age wear, G

 SEARLE RONALD: (1920-2011) British Artist & Cartoonist. An excellent original black pen and ink drawing signed by Searle, one page, 4to, n.p., n.d. (c.1940?). Searle has drawn a profile head and shoulders study of a military officer. Signed ('Ronald Searle') at the base of the drawing. About EX  Searle made many drawings, possibly including this one, while a Prisoner-of-War of the Japanese during World War II. The majority of the 300 drawings he made are in the permanent collection of the Imperial War Museum and most also appeared in his book Ronald Searle: To the Kwai and Back, War Drawings 1939-1945 (1986). The paper bears the watermark of Jarrolds, the Norwich department store.

He followed this with another winning town hall design for Congleton, a small town near Manchester. These successes prompted his move to London in 1865, and in 1866 Godwin, with his partner Henry Crisp, entered the competition for the building of the new Bristol Assize Courts under the nom de plume '1066' or 'Ten Hundred and Sixty-Six'. Their designs won first, second and third prizes. Despite this, and amid protestations, a second competition was order by the town council, which Godwin again entered, this time only gaining second place to an entry from Popes & Binden, which was the one finally built. The collection on offer comprises a number of drawings from the first competition, including the original drawing

§ Elisabeth Vellacott (British, 1905-2002) Sketch for "Chesil Beach", circa 1952 pencil 18 x 38cm (7 x 15in) Other Notes: Elisabeth Vellacott made trips to the Scillies, Wales and Scotland and produced masterly studies of rock formations and mountain rivers - people, trees and flowers were also to be depicted in compositions formed from thousands of tiny pencil or chalk strokes. Jim Ede bought several such landscapes for his Kettle's Yard museum and gallery at Cambridge and it was here that the artist enjoyed a 90th birthday exhibition. The present pencil sketch is a preliminary drawing for the ink and wash painting "Chesil Beach" which now hangs in the collecton at Kettle's Yard, Cambridge. Vellacott referred to these drawings as her "inkwash drawings". Condition is fine.

GERMAN SCHOOL, 1856 THE EYE PATIENT OF FRIEDRICH HERMAN DE LEUW signed with a monogram, dated and inscribed Grafrath, pen and ink, mounted facing a portrait photograph (albumen print) of F H de Leuw in contemporary tooled red morocco case, 21 x 24cm, 26.5 x 46.4cm overallSuch was his renown in treating disease of the eye that by the 1840s the German ophthalmologist Friedrich Hermann de Leuw (1792-1861) had gained an international reputation. As is clearly evident from this interesting and accomplished depiction of the interior of his consulting rooms, his expertise was much in demand, putting a considerable strain on the hotel and facilities of the small town Grafrath outside Solingen. His more distinguished patients included King George V of Hannover (1819-1878). One of de Leuw's sons was the landscape painter Friedrich August de Leuw (1817-1888). ++Exterior of leather case scuffed and scratched with small losses to the surface of the leather retaining both brass hooks. A daughter of the Reverend William Wescomb married the 8th Lord Byron and another married his brother, becoming the mother of the 9th and 10th Lords Byron. The design of High Hall, a Jacobean style house of c1840 was closely modelled on the Byron family's principal seat, Thrumpton Hall, Nottinghamshire. ++The drawing of dining room panel in generally good condition with filing creases and slight discolouration, the other items in the lot in variable condition
