The drawing would appear to depict officers of the Napoleonic army encountering a Mameluke caravan at Gizeh.

Lawson Wood (Clarence, R. I., 1878 - 1957). A collection of seventeen original sketchbooks covering the years 1890 - 1920, containing numerous landscape sketches, figure studies, life drawing, animals, etc., mostly in pencil, but including one album of pen, ink and wash drawings (1892), and a few watercolour vignettes, mostly captioned and dated, many signed by Lawson Wood to upper cover or inside front cover, various sizes (from 85 x 135 mm to 250 x 370 mm) (17)

Pen & ink caricature of the theological debates at Oxford, 1872, penk & ink caricature drawing, with portraits of Cardinal Newman, with quotation to left and right lower margin "Strange that such different should be/Twixt Tweedle - dum, and Tweedle - dee", and "Lacker and shams at nothing are too dear/So Jack move on, nor stop the way up here." with monogram and date to lower left hand corner, approx. 330 x 470 mm (1)
*Napoleon I (Emperor of France). An original pencil drawing of Napoleon on his deathbed, attributed to Captain Ward at St Helena, c. 5th-7th May 1821, an amateur outline pencil sketch on tracing paper, showing Napoleon lying dead with two pillows under his head, dressed in full military uniform, with helmet, medals and cape, some spotting and sl. creasing, approx. 11.5 x 20 cm, glued at corners to a later album leaf, with an old ink inscription beneath, 'Taken by Captain Ward, who was quartered at St. Helena at the time'. Provenance: Believed to be from Marie Wragg de Winton, a South Wales or Midlands artist (fl. 1839-60), and since handed down through the family. The implication is that Captain Ward was Captain of the Guards responsible for guarding the dead Emperor before his funeral, and that subsequently Captain Ward gave the sketch to his friend Madame Marie Wragg de Winton. BURNE-JONES, Sir EDWARD. (1833-98). Four autograph letters to Lucy Clifford, one signed in full, 1893, 2 signed with initials, n.d. (c. 1895), and one signed with self portrait (envelope postmarked 1895). 11 1/2 pp, 8vo. In the illustrated letter he thanks Lucy for sending him a copy of her book, “In a most unfair way – a most dishonourable way, I looked at the end to see if they married & were happy ever after…” – is it kind though to want to make me weep?”, with an ink drawing of a fat-cheeked baby in profile. With an A.L.S. from Sir Philip Burne-Jones, 1897, illustrated with self portrait at the easel, and two A.Ls.S. from Lady (Georgina) Burne-Jones, 1898 and 1905.
SIR WILLIAM RUSSELL FLINT, RA, PRWS (1880-1969) Five letters to Bradbury, October 1952-April 1969, thanking him for birthday wishes and presents, a gift of old papers for drawing and apologies for being unable to meet him, each in elegant ink script and fully signed; two letters from Francis Russell Flint to Bradbury, Jan.1970-Sept.1972; and "More Than Shadows", biography of Flint by A. A fine album of approx. eighty (mostly albumen print) photographs on fifty leaves, of the Rossetti family and friends, plus art works by Dante Gabriel Rossetti and other Pre?Raphaelite artists, etc., c. 1850s to 1900, including six photographs by Lewis Carroll (i.e. Charles L. Dodgson) seven images of William Rossetti's first fiancee Henrietta Rintoul from the 1850s, images of other Rintoul family members, Marie Stillman, two unidentified girls, images of art works photographed by William E. Gray and Naya [many of the latter of paintings from the first Venice Biennale of 1895 of which William Rossetti was chairman of the judging jury], the first twenty images (all art works) pasted in, the remaining images corner?mounted, most images on rectos with ink captions on facing page in William Rossetti's hand, William Rossetti's ownership signature, dated 1898, orig. half morocco with William Rossetti's printed label to upper cover (numbered 24: Gabriel, Family, Miscellaneous), spine damaged and covers near detached, folio Full contents description available. Wain (Louis). Mr and Mrs Duck and family, orig. pen and ink drawing, signed (twice), approx. 49 x 38 cm. Captioned in pencil by Louis Wain, 'Oh dear, what a big egg! You did not lay that Mrs Cackle surely. Yes I did, Mr Cackle, but it's grown up of it's own accord in the night. What a big duckling we shall have. Oh dear, there is whole brood of ducklings coming out of one egg. Mrs Cackle you must have laid an easter egg by mistake.' (1)
Mozley (Charles b.1915). Collection of twenty?nine original preparatory book illustrations, c.1960's, pen & ink, pencil & charcoal drawings on paper, some heightened with white, majority laid down on card, includes images of Vulcan, Athena, Hercules, Isis & Horus, Perseus, Poseidon, Cupid & Psyche etc., dimensions approx. 120 x 140mm to 215 x 140mm, contained in modern plastic ring binder Charles Mozley was born in Sheffield. He studied at Sheffield School of Art and at the Royal College of Art (1933?37). He taught anatomy and life drawing at Camberwell School of Art (1938?39) before army service in WWII. He illustrated many books, dust jackets, theatre & film posters. He was also responsible for several murals for the Festival of Britain in 1951. (1)
