A George II figured walnut longcase clock with moonphase, alarm and annualcalendar by John Crolee, London c.1755the 13" arched brass dial with moonphase to arch with a band of engraving above and hemispheres below, silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals, minute track and outer Arabic seconds, calendar aperture, subsidiary seconds and alarm dials, and either side of the seconds ring two large cutouts in the form of sectors with scrolled bevelled edges, on the left side is shown the day of the week and ruling deity on the right the month and its zodiacal sign, strike/silent regulation at 9 o'clock and female mask spandrels, signed John Crolee, five pillar rack striking movement on a bell, brass cased weights, the case crossbanded and chequer strung, the arched hood covered in tooled leather and surmounted by gilt brass flambeau finials, over a glazed door blind fret frieze flanked by fluted and brass strung columns, the sides glazed, the trunk with arched door and gently curved sides, on a box base raised on a double plinthheight including finials 241.5cm.Condition: Winds, ticks and runs however no guarantee can be offered as to the full working order. Winding key, pendulum and weights present. Some veneer to base absent. Some of these pieces are detached but present. Shrinkage cracks to trunk either side of the break arch of the door. Early 20th century, the white dial with alarm indicator, and Russian retailer's name, striking on a coiled gong, the movement stamped AM for (Francois Arsène Margaine), height 18cm to the top of the handle.The clock will need attention, the escapement moves briefly when shaken, but soon stops, one train winds satisfactorily, the other doesn't.The repeat function works but is out of sync.The dial, glass and case are in good order.
