A Fine Brass Engraved Strike and Repeat Grande Sonnerie Alarm Carriage Clock with Calendar Displays, signed Henri Jacot, Paris, circa 1880, the elaborately engraved gorge case with carrying handle and repeat button, enamel dial with Roman numerals and signed, three subsidiary dials below 6 for day of the week (in French), date and alarm, swag and scroll elaborately engraved dial mask, underside of the case with sonnerie selection lever for grande sonnerie/silent/petite sonnerie, stamped H.Jacot Paris, twin barrel movement with a large platform lever escapement, split bimetallic balance, blued overcoil hairspring, sonnerie striking on two bells, movement backplate numbered 262, 17.5cm high over handle see illustration 31.10.19 Brass surfaces are discoloured, bevelled glass panels with scratches, top repeat button is not pushing down and is not working, back door knob is missing, main enamel dial with the signature and place name rubbed but still visible, date subsidiary dial with one small scratch, movement with two later bells, original platform, sonnerie strike work is functioning, movement needs cleaning, movement in going order.

Two French brass carriage clocks, one with alarm and two-train striking movement, the other timepiece only. Tallest 13.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The smaller clock winds and is ticking although a little sluggishly. The movement is probably a little dry. The brass case is all over tarnished. The top right hand corner of the dial has a small loss when the clock is viewed from the underside of the cornice. There is a further small hairline crack towards the bottom left hand corner of the dial. There is one small chip to the top right hand corner of the glass on the rear door. The larger timepiece is fully wound on both trains and is not currently operating however the movement appears to be all present. The case is all over tarnished. The dial appears to be in good order. There is some rubbing to the Arabic numerals on the subsidiary dial. The rear door has a chip and crack to the top right hand corner of the glass. All other glass panels appear to be in good condition. We have keys for both clocks.

A clock signed by him previously in the Wetherfield Collection of clocks. Or possibly John Jenkins who is recorded as working in London having been apprenticed in 1695, free of the Clockmaker's Company in 1704.
