An Oval Brass Engraved Striking Alarm Carriage Clock with the Trademark JS mark for J.Soldano on the Escapement Platform, circa 1870, scroll carrying handle, engraved throughout with scroll and floral decoration, enamel dial with Roman numerals, alarm dial, scroll and floral engraved mask surround, twin barrel movement with a silvered platform lever escapement stamped JS for J.Soldano and numbered 350, striking on a gong, movement backplate numbered 350 and 2517, 18cm high over handle see illustration The JS escapements are usually found in Soldano clocks were in all probability produced for him in Switzerland. See Charles (Allix) Carriage Clocks Their history and Development, pg.45022.02.17, Brass surfaces are discoloured in parts, front glass panel with a large chip to the top right hand corner, the other glass panels with small scratches, top side of the carrying handle with one small vacant hole which possibly would have been originally a small finial but is now missing, dial edge between 10 & 11 o'clock with slight damage, movement is dirty and needs cleaning, silvering to the platform is discoloured, both spring barrels are winding correctly, strike and alarm functions are working, movement in going order.
An Unusual Brass Grande Sonnerie Alarm Carriage Clock, circa 1850, case highly elaborate with floral and leaf decoration throughout, carrying handle and repeat button, base with acanthus leaves and leopards upon a central urn, enamel dial with Roman numerals, Breguet style hands, central alarm hand, unusual subsidiary hand below 6 for petite sonnerie/grande sonnerie/silent selections, twin barrel movement wound from the front, platform cylinder escapement stamped on the cock Fumey, striking on two bells, 18cm high over handle see illustration J-M Fumey was a maker of platform escapements in the mid 19th century. In the 1855 Paris Exhibition he was awarded a Bronze medal. 28.04.17, Glass panels with some chips, case surfaces are slightly discoloured in parts, left hand side with one screw missing, dial with one small hairline crack positioned below the left hand side winding hole, small scratches in parts and minor chips around the right hand side winding hole, movement is dirty and needs cleaning, striking barrel mainspring appears to have broken and unable to wind, the going barrel mainspring is fully wound, alarm is working, the strike work is not working and needs attention.
A Brass Striking Repeating Alarm Carriage Clock with Unusual Calendar and Moonphase Displays, retailed by Muller, Twickenham, circa 1890, carrying handle and repeat button, enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, two subsidiary dials for day/date and moonphase aperture, twin barrel movement with a silvered platform lever escapement, striking on a gong, movement backplate numbered 1150, 19cm high over handle see illustration 28.04.17, Case is slightly discoloured in parts, case with minor dents and scratches, glass panels with minor scratches and slightly dirty in parts, no signs of any chips to the glass panels, dial with two faint hairline cracks positioned to the top right hand corner and to the right hand side of the moonphase aperture, dial centre with scratches and the place name is rubbed, movement is dirty and needs cleaning, original platform, strike and repeat are working but very slowly, both barrels are fully wound, going train is not working.
