A George III mahogany bracket clock by John Upjohn, marked "London" to the dial and "Upjohn, Exeter" to the backplate, two-train fusee with alarm. Height excluding carrying handle 44 cm, width 29 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The clock has an anchor escapement, the movement winds on both trains. It is ticking away as it should. The movement does strike when advanced. We are not sure if the alarm mechanism is operating as we are not sure how this works. Both the repeat and alarm cords are perished and whilst operating require replacing. The case is in generally good condition and of good colour. All brass work would appear to be original. The top of the clock case is in very good order. The front has several old minor veneer repairs. The right hand side of the case has an old repair to the mahogany either side of the arched grille. The brass fretwork is in good order. The silkwork fabric has probably been replaced. The overall condition of the movement and clock case would appear to be very good, the only question mark being the operation of the alarm mechanism.
