An Early 18th Century Bracket Alarm Clock By William Webster, London:The ebonised case with bronze handle and finials to top, front door opens to reveal silver chapter ring to the dial with Roman numerals and free floating Fleur de Lis. Surrounded by Arabic numerals for minutes, single winding hole above calendar aperture, centre of the dial with a ring for setting alarm, marked in Arabic. Aperture for pendulum movement, disc to the top WM. Webster Exchange Alley, London and gilt floral mask spandrels. The flanks with silk back fretwork brass.H 48.5cm x W 28cm x D 18cm CONDITION REPORT: Ebonised case, missing front right of door and bottom right at the base, and mitred bracket foot.Dial in good order, with period hands and firmly placed spandrels, single wind. With date aperture, pendulum aperture and alarm dial to the centre.Vented side panels loose, carry handle and finials secure. Rear door has loose beading. Opens to reveal engraved backplate, two hammers to the bell, single train, single fusee movement, with wheel pull. With pendulum. Damage to escape mechanism which is snapped off where it feeds through pendulum stem.
Late 19th Century French arch topped mantel clock with loop handle, enamel face with Roman and Arabic numerals and French brass back winding movement, together with a Schatz eight day alarm clock and an early 20th Century Staffordshire Pottery mantel clock with printed and gilded decoration in Art Nouveau style. Brass faced alarm wall clock marked: Whitehurst and Son of Derby, together with a small 17th Century style lantern clock with electric movement. 16cm diameter and 26cm high. (2) (B.P. 24% incl. VAT) CONDITION REPORT: Whitehurst clock - Two weights present but no pendulum. No number evident. Surface wear and dings as expected. Not running. Movement appears complete (see images). Other clock has wear and tear, with later electric movement (not working).

The 30 hour movement with rectangular steel pillars, enclosing a crown wheel & verge movement with an alarm mechanism sounding on a bell mounted above the plates. The whole on an ebonised wall bracket with a brass nameplate for J A S. Roper, Shepton Mallett (Sic). The hood constructed of oak with oyster veneered sides & top, the front & sides also with inlaid veneers.
