An Italian Mourning coat, which is fashioned in a long 3/4 design, heavily decorated in a braided cotton lace design, there is a taped fullness round the hemline of this jacket. The long sleeves flow into a taped fullness to the cuffs lined in taffeta and tied at the neckline by a Black Taffeta bow, Made in Italy. Together with a long designed Edwardian Taffeta coat with a foliage design round the top half of the back, the long leaf and foliage design of the jacket are decorated in silk tassel. The hemline has a frieze braided weighted down by lead weights. The leg 'O' Mutton gathered sleeves have decorated cuffs. The rolled collar is edged in fine lace and braiding as is the strips of braiding flowing down the jacket, which also have lead weights on the hemline with a chain fastening. Made in Italy. A collection of fabrics & pocket books, late 18th/early 19th century, 10 pieces of silk or satin, each embroidered with silks or ribbons, including: a hand-pieced portion of a skirt, cream satin, finely hand-worked in tambour stitch and ribbons with all-over pattern of flower and bow sprigs, a couple of small areas with marked-up pattern visible where unpicked, generally marked, some loose stitches, approximately 142.4 x 98cm (60 x 38.5ins); a hand-stitched cream silk fichu with fringed edging, 2 sides finely hand-worked with scrolling border of ribbons, flowers, and peacock feathers, in tambour stitch and ribbon embroidery, incorporating metal threads and tiny spangles, toned and spotted, fabric perishing in places, embroidered sides approximately 76cm (30ins); 3 small irregular fragments from a gown, cream satin, finely hand-worked in tambour stitch with floral sprays, peacock feathers, and bows and tassels, some holes and marks; and 4 ladies' pocket books, worn, each hand-embroidered, some incorporating metal threads and spangles, one with stitched initials and date of 1808Qty: (14)
A French gilt metal mantle clock in Empire style, unsigned, 19th century, the eight-day bell striking movement with outside countwheel and silk suspension with serial number 249 to backplate and with Roman numeral dial, the Neoclassical case surmounted by a globe, quiver and bow and flanked by cupid playing a lyre atop a pillar opposed by a standing male figure, the plinth base with further lyre and festoons above square feet, 50cm high overall Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions, wear and dirt, discolouration and loose elements to the case. the cherub to the left hand side is detached and the column in its sections - there is no retaining bolt to hold together and is presented loose in the saleroom. This is how it has been during it's time at Dreweatts. the elements were balanced in place for the photograph. the other figure appears to be lacking his flute.There are two keys and no pendulum, Dreweatts have not tested the movement nor can give any guarantees of whether it is working or give any comments as to longevity. We recommend a full service and overhaul by a professional restorer prior to use. The movement is dirty and with signs of disuse. There is no bezel or rear door to the case. A set of four gilt metal three light wall appliques in Louis XVI style, 20th century, the dentil cast and beaded sconces on scrolled foliate cast arms issuing from ribbon backplates each with central flambeau detail, with bow finials, 58cm high, 34cm wide, 16cm protuberanceCondition Report: Two of these are fitted with taller electrical sockets, and the finishes aren't entirely identical (one is brighter, likely polished, while the others are a little more subdued).One is fitted with a circular plate to the rear, possibly strengthening a weaker area.The surface to some of the branches has some casting irregularities, due to manufacture.Aside from this, and minor marks, knocks and scratches overall consistent with age, these are in presentable order.
