A Louis XVI enamelled gold snuff box by Jean-Baptiste Marie (fl. 1769-1788), marked, Paris, 1778/1779, with charge and discharge marks of Jean-Baptiste Fouache, later struck with two post 1864 French import marks, oval, the base and side panels enamelled in translucent caramel-colour on an engine turned ground, the cover with oval portrait plaque painted en grisaille with Joseph II (1741-1790), Holy Roman Emperor, flanked by a nude child with laurel crown and the Habsburg eagle with globe, sceptre and sword, the gold border enamelled with green leaves and chased with flowers surmounted by a bow cresting, the side pilasters hung with green enamelled swags, the frosted gold borders with twisted green and opaque ribbons enclosing pellets, 8cm (3.25") wide Provenance: Christie's London, 22 May 2001, Lot 152 (see illustration)

A Pair of Fine Late 18th Century Open Carved Limewood Door Swags & Pediment. The swags composed of intricate scrolling foliate whorls hung with pendant garlands forming three graduated clusters of fruit & flowers tied in ribbons and frosted with gilding 48 ins (122 cms) in length. The pediment open carved with a trophy of crossed horns entwined in ribbon and lavish scrolls of acanthus leaves tied in a flowing bow to the top, 18 ins (46 cms) high, 36 ins (92 cms) wide.

Each having a high bent ash back-bow above nine slender splayed spindles and H-form side supports leading down to fine ripple grained figured birch seat and standing on round flared legs united by a H-form stretcher, 34 ins (86.5 cms) high, 19 ins (28 cms) wide and 18 ins (46 cms) deep.

A 19th Century Country Stick Back Windsor Armchair. The ash hoop back morticed through with seven long spindles piercing the bent-wood arm bow with three further underarm spindles and bent end supports either side. The elm seat morticed & wedged with turned legs united by a high H-form stretcher.

A 19th Century Yew-wood Best High Back Smoker's Bow Windsor Chair attributed to Yorkshire 1840-1900. The high back having a shaped splat pierced with Christmas tree motifs flanked by 8 spindles; four each side, leading down to the arm bow with outswept pad terminals on baluster turned spindles flanking a fretted lower splat. The elm seat on turned legs united by an H-form stretcher.

A Charming, Child's Gothic Yew Wood Windsor Chair attributed to the Thames Valley, Circa 1740-1780. The low hoop back having a central pierced splat carved with interlaced strap-work forming Gothic tracery arches flanked by upper & lower tracery splats with further splats below the arm bow and bent-wood end supports. The shaped seat having outwardly pointed corners above cabriole legs with pierced spandrels, united by a crinoline stretcher and terminating on pad feet. 32 3/4 (83 ins) high, 23 1/4 ins (59 cms) wide.
