Trinket Box: Hand Painted Hunting Scene, Stamped E S 1861 (Circa 1890) - Erdmann Schlegelmilch Porcelain FactoryThis trinket box features a decorative hand-painted hunting scene and is stamped with the mark E S 1861, indicating it was produced around 1890. The factory responsible for its creation is the Erdmann Schlegelmilch Porcelain Factory, which was established in Suhl, Thuringia, Germany in 1861 by Leonard Schlegelmilch and his two brothers. The factory was named in honor of their father, Erdmann. After Leonard's death in 1899, his son Julius Martin took over the business, which grew steadily until the start of World War I. Despite efforts to keep the factory going after the war, it was ultimately closed in 1937 due to the economic challenges of the Great Depression.
