HRH The Prince of Wales - Prince Charles signed Christmas card. With gilt embossed Prince of Wales cipher to cover and colour photograph of The Prince with his two sons William & Harry playing Polo. Signed simply 'From Charles' in fountain pen. Within the original envelope. 2001. Note: these were obtained directly by our vendor who worked for the Duchy Of Cornwall Eastern District. She worked with the department for nine years, and received a personally signed Christmas card for each year of her employment.

A Riverside Fishing Expedition: An Early 18th Century Painted Bone Brisé Fan, the large central vignette depicting an idyllic scene of a lady and her three children playing happily by the river, their country residence behind, a pasture with sheep opposite, the lady with fishing rod, and one boy expectantly holding a bucket for the catch. On the opposite bank, a young shepherd with his crook plays music to his sheep. Two side vignettes show figures in contemporary dress. Twenty-seven inner sticks and two guards, the latter with a figure, a shell and a heart. The inner sticks are pierced above the central vignette, the latter being enclosed in a bright gold shaped border. Blue silk ribbon. Guard length 21cm. Together with a pink silk lined maroon card fan boxBoth guards have been restored following breaks to the middle, the gorge painting is quite substantially rubbed. Repair to lower guard.
A Mid to Late 19th Century Ivory Fan, the monture very plain, the double silk leaf painted with a young boy playing a guitar to the delight of three young and fashionable ladies seated in the shade of an arbour. The costumes appear a century earlier than the fan, the lady in lilac appearing to wear a sack back robe, shading herself with a matching parasol, one companion shading herself with her fan. Unsigned. The cream verso is plain. Simple gold metal loop with attractive shaping to the head when the fan is open. Guard length 27cm. Together with a green card fan box, unlabelled; and A Late 18th/19th Century Ivory Fan, the slender sticks carved, pierced, gilded and silvered, the upper section of the guards wider. The gorge is quite finely carved with figures and more classical designs. The double paper leaf of a later period, is lithographed with a charming scene of young girls and their mothers presenting bouquets of flowers to an older lady seated in the grounds of a large country house, just visible in the distance. The dresses are brightly coloured and of the tiered style popular in the middle of the century. The reserves are filled with flowers and are strongly gilded. The verso shows two ladies wearing much earlier, flowing robes, greeting a young male visitor who appears to proffer a gift. Guard length 27cm (2)Fan 1 - Rubbing to the folds, splitting to leaf next to the right guard, and just in from the lower guard. Colours and detail good. Box in good order. Fan 2 - The upper guard is broken but present. Losses to the gilding and silvering.

The Royal Game of the Ombre. London: Printed for William Brook, dwelling in the Black Swan Inn-Yard in Holborn, 1660. First edition, octavo, rare work on card playing; one copy in ESTC, at the British Library, no U.S. copies; the only other edition, dated 1665, shows two British copies only; bound in modern calf, some spots to title, 5 1/2 x 3 3/8 in. "L'Ombre is a Spanish Game at Cards, as much as to say, The Man: so he who undertakes to play the Game, sayes, Yo so l'Ombre, or, I am the man." Ombre is a fast-moving trick-takingcard game known as one of the earliest card games in Europe, and a classic of its genre, related to Euchre, Boston, and Solo Whist. It is complicated to play and was very popular in England in the 17th century. I is unclear whether the other known copy of this edition contains the added leaf present here. Adoration of the Magi triptych reredos design for All Saints Church, Earsham, Norfolk, pencil and watercolour on paper, depicting the wise men worshipping the Infant Jesus, flanked by two smaller designs of child angel musicians, each design within a tracery frame, lightly spotted, 15 x 6.5cm (6 x 2.5ins) and 13 x 5cm (5.25 x 2ins), mounted together in multi-aperture mount, framed and glazed, together with a triptych stained glass window design by Reginald Hallward, pencil on brown paper, with some bodycolour, each design depicting a young angel, central angel with arms aloft in adoration, flanked by an angel gazing heavenwards with hands clasped, and an angel playing a viol, 12.5 x 8cm (5 x 3.25ins) and 12.5 x 6.5cm (5 x 2.5ins), mounted together in a multi-aperture mount, framed and glazed, plus an original illustration by Adelaide Hallward for The Baby's Quest by Mrs. Reginald Hallward, published 1913, pen & ink on brown paper, heightened with bodycolour, depicting two small child angels sheltering under a toadstool, image size 4.5 x 7.5cm (1.75 x 3ins), laid down on card, together with a copy of the book for which it was drawn, original cloth-backed pictorial boards, in original glassine wrapper, small 8vo (4)
