[Waterloo]. Autograph letter signed “J Wallace†to the Dean of Windsor, 3pp., 4to., with integral address panel, trace of mounting at inner margin,1/2 past 7 oclock, n.p., n.d. [but 22 June 1815], giving an account of “the intelligence...from London of the splendid victory obtained by the alliesâ€. News of the victory was carried to London from Brussels by Major Henry Percy, younger son of the Duke of Northumberland and aide de camp to the Duke of Wellington, who delivered the dispatch to Lord Bathurst, Secretary for War on the evening of Wednesday 21 June. “My Dear Dean, I am sure you will forgive my disturbing you to communicate the intelligence just brought me by a messenger from London of the splendid victory obtained by the allies...The French army totally annihilated - where Bpte is is not known...Lord Uxbridge has lost a leg & Lord Fitzroy Somerset an arm...†Possibly written by General Sir John Wallace who had fought in the Peninsular War. The Dean of Windsor at the time was Edward Legge, son of the Earl of Dartmouth and later Bishop of Oxford.Slight folds, pencil notes and very occasional spotting.
John Hutchins, The History and Antiquities of the County of Dorset, 4 volumes, third edition, titles in red and black, engraved plates, maps and pedigrees, illustrations, later red morocco, folio, Westminster: John Bowyer Nichols, 1861-70.Volume 1 with title page spotted and watermarked to top edge, page 2 cut down and repaired, Volume 2 with page 13 loose and end fly-leaf creased, Volume 3 with repair to page 496 affecting text to top right corner, page 533 with neat repair to tear on fore-edge, page 540 with pencil mark, Volume 4 with pages 5-8 mis bound, page 173 with fore-edge trimmed, pages 529-531 heavily darkened, all volumes with occasional spotting and darkening, bindings scuffed, marked and stained.
Elizabeth Barrett Browning. An album of sketches and manuscript copies by the Barrett's and their circle, including 'The Sea Side Walk' signed 'EBB' with a note 'Sidmouth August 17th, Monday evening, 1835', 2pp., and a further untitled poem, commencing 'For ever since my childhood looks/Could rest on nature's pictured books..', in six stanzas, also signed 'EBB', 2pp., together with a watercolour sketch by J. Varley, signed in pencil, and other sketches and drawings, the title page inscribed 'Arabella Barrett, Hope End June 13th 1831', contemporary morocco, 4to; together with a notebook with an outline for a play, possibly by Octavius Barrett Browning. PROVENANCE: From the family of Octavius Moulton-Barrett (1824-1910), youngest brother of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, thence by descent. RARE. The album was a gift to Arabella Moulton-Barrett from Eliza Cliffe. 'The Sea Side Walk' by Elizabeth Barrett Browning was first published in The Athenaeum. 2 July 1836, and collected in 'The Seraphim, and Other Poems', 1838. This appears to be a fair copy in the author's hand. The untitled poem is 'Minstrelsy', and also a fair copy in the author's hand. The album also contains 'A Short Catechism on the Subject of Albums' by Edward Moulton-Barrett, 2pp., several lines from William Wordsworth's 'The Fountain', transcribed by Henrietta Moulton-Barrett, and a copy of 'A Couplet, Written in a Volume of Poems...' by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, transcribed by Arabella Moulton-Barrett, 1p.Mixed condition.

Day' on the side, the reverse with details of the subjects inscribed in pencil, 200mm x 270mm, c.1810 PROVENANCE: From the family of Octavius Moulton-Barrett (1824-1910), youngest brother of Elizabeth Barrett Browning, thence by descent.Some surface discolouration and soiling, the image cropped to the left.

(3) Framed and glazed. Condition Report: Under glass, the largest has a horizontal crease/seam to paper about 6cm from top, all with some rippling to paper.
