Italian School, 19th century, An album containing 14 views in Sicily and Southern Italy, pen and ink on tracing paper, all inscribed in Italian, with one pencil study of figures in a boat, the largest sheet 23 x 69 cm (9 x 27 in) the album 30 x 43 cm (12 x 17 in). Note: although the inscriptions suggest an Italian hand, a view by the same hand of the Foro Romano was on the market in 2004 and again in 2007 as the work of Augustus J. C. Hare. That drawing had apparently descended in Hare`s family. The present album contains a loose sheet headed `Adolphus A. Hamm...` listing the views in English, so the drawings may be the work of someone employed by Hare to prepare views for one of his guide books.
