(1748-1818) Quarter length, wearing a military tunic and sash, signed with initials and inscribed: J S/ 1791/ Madras, pencil on paper, unframed Oval 13.5 x 12cm. * Floyd was put in command of the 23rd (19th) Light Dragoons in Madras in 1781 and distinguished himself against Tipu Sultan 1790-1794. He was promoted Major General in 1794 and led the covering army during the Siege of Seringapatam in 1799.
