An unusual gold-mounted ivory toilet set,the knife case and necessaire maker's mark of Jean-Baptiste Gillet, charge and discharge marks of Julien Alaterre, Paris, 1770 comprising an ivory pencil case holder, necessaire and knife box, each pendent, each with chased entrelac-de-rubans mounts, the first containing a double-ended reeded gold pen nib and pencil holder, the second fitted with later gold needlecase, awl and bodkin with pied-de-poule ornament, the third containing a mother of pearl folding knife with gold and steel blades, all in fitted green leather case with purple velvet lining, the outer pencil case with rubbed discharge mark of Julien Alaterre, the knife with cutler's mark P or FB below a spread eagle, possibly for Claude Francois Bouvet, Besancon, circa 1770, the necessaire fittings and outer leather case circa 1850 knife case 12.5cm, 4.875 in
