[Stevenson, Robert Louis]. The History of Edinburgh, from the Earliest Accounts to the Present Time..by Alexander Kincaid, pub. An Album containing forty-one carefully executed watercolour studies of British wild flowers, lichen and leaves, etc., c. 1877-79, mostly painted two per page (on one side of the page only), the specimens not identified but each captioned with the date and the name of the place where the specimen was found (Grasmere, summit of Helvellyn, Coniston Lake, Evesham, Bolton Abbey, Clevedon, Ross, Isle of Wight, etc.), page size approx. 18 x 25 cm., orig. quarter morocco gilt, spine repaired with sellotape, oblong 4to The artist was probably M. E. Brown, Cotswold House, Evesham, whose ownership inscription is written in pencil inside the front cover. (1)

De Morgan (Augustus, 1806-1871). Autograph Algebraic Equation Signed ('ADeMorgan'), [December 1864] , with a characteristic autograph note signed with initials ('Asked to put date, but will not, because the above is true at all dates'), 1 page, tipped onto an album leaf, pencil date in another contemporary hand, 8vo Autograph material by De Morgan is rare. He was the first person to define the name 'mathematical induction' and developed De Morgan's rule to determine the convergence of a mathematical series. (1)
Heseltine (Philip, "Peter Warlock"). Autograph Musical Fragment, c. 1918, three staves of music titled 'Lagan Love' in Heseltine's hand with a pencil note below [by writer Stephen MacKenna], 'Written for me from his Manx notes by Ph. Heseltine (i.e. Peter Warlock) in Dublin wartime', some spotting across the whole page, 1 page, folioStephen MacKenna was deeply interested in early music, notably the folk music of the British Isles. Heseltine was a collector of such folk music and would have written this for MacKenna while both were in Dublin for a year from August 1917. (1)
Irving (Henry & Terry, Ellen). Irving's personal working prompt copy of the play 'Charles IX' by J. Comyns Carr, c.1885, lacking title page, some preliminaries detached, with pencil annotations by Henry Irving in pencil and Ellen Terry in ink, also a contemp. tipped-in letter by J. Comyns Carr to the theatre critic William Winter, contemp. qtr. calf, worn to spine, 8vo Bookplate of William Winter to front pastedown. Some of the annotations by Ellen Terry are humourous and softly mocking of the play. After a line that reads 'Still the plot hangs' the answer in ink -'By jove it does!!' (1)
Churchill (Right Hon. Winston S.). Head and shoulders portrait by Harold Bird, c. 1941, small original pencil drawing (approx. 8 x 7 cm) on an album leaf, signed lower right in capitals, a littel dusty, unrelated sketch (by Bird) to verso, signed and dated 1941, remains of mounting marks to corners, approx. 17 x 12 cm Harold Bird was born in Heywood, Rochdale, Lancashire on 20th June 1920. He was an artist, model maker and military historian who served in the Far EAst for part of WWII [from information supplied by the vendor]. (1)
