1995 Mini John Cooper, 1,300 cc. Registration number M964 OBE. Chassis number SAXXNNAYCBD106112. Engine number 12A2EJ02312410. Fifty years ago the notion that the Mini might have a future as anything other than basic transport was anathema and the idea of a high-performance version was laughable. One man though, saw it quite differently. Racing car manufacturer John Cooper already knew quite a bit about tuning BMC's A-Series engine - he was running the company's Formula Junior effort at the time - and a test drive in a prototype Mini convinced him of the car's competition potential. The result, launched in September 1961, was the Mini Cooper, a car that offered a size/price/performance package that was nothing short of miraculous. Following the original's demise in 1971, John Cooper sold his own modified Minis under the 'Mini Cooper' name from the mid-1980s, before Rover's acquisition of the rights made it possible to officially re-launch the model in July 1990. The new Mini Cooper was based on the Mini 30, but fitted with the 1,275cc MG Metro A-Series engine rather than the 30's 998cc unit. Little more than a year later, the engine was given fuel injection to enable it to meet tougher emissions legislation, the resulting model being known as the 'Mini Cooper 1.3i'. Power increased from 61 to 63bhp and there was a slight gain in top speed, which was now 92mph. OBE was first registered on the 28th March 1995 and by 2006 the mileage was 84,220, rising to 84,692 in 2007. In 2008 it had been bought by Alex Handys of Newcastle upon Tyne; the next MOT in 2009 resulted in some welding to pass the test. Unfortunately she did not look after the car and when our vendor bought it for his wife on the 10th January 2012 it was in poor condition. Much work was undertaken on the car and the car passed its MOT on the 7th August 21012 with a mileage of 90,533. His wife was then taken ill and the car was placed in storage at 90,543 miles. Sold with the V5C, MOT history stated, 1995 brochure and various receipts. Due to its long storage the car will require some recommissioning before hitting the open road; it started easily when the cataloguer arrived for the photo shot, but the clutch slave cylinder was sticking.

A 1969 MG C roadster, registration number VFH 536G, chassis number GCN1/7134G, engine number 29G/RU/H4424, Mineral blue. With a limited production run of less than two years, MG?s C is one of the rarest models to be produced by the company. Somewhat misunderstood in period, they have gone on to become a highly collectible and sort after model, offering big Healey performance at a fraction of the cost. This beautifully presented and maintained example has been in the current ownership since 2007. Finished in Mineral blue with a black leather interior and matching weather gear consisting of a mohair hood and original specification tonneau cover, the roadster sits on period correct silver painted wire wheels. The body structure and paint finish are good with even panel gaps throughout. There is a large comprehensive history file accompanying the MG, with both historical and current receipts covering all aspects of works carried out over the years, including an engine rebuilt to fast road specification with an unleaded cylinder head by The Bromsgrove MG Centre, body restoration and numerous other items associated with a well restored and maintained car. The MG started readily on our inspection to take the catalogue images, having recently been fitted with new batteries, held good oil pressure and sounded particularly healthy through its stainless steel exhaust. VFH 536G will be offered for auction with the aforementioned history file, the original banjo type steering wheel (currently fitted with a sports leather and aluminium wheel) and will be greatly missed by our vendor. V5, V5C, MOT and tax exempt See front cover and other illustrations All lots in this sale are sold as is and bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding. A 1933 MG J2 Midget, registration number APD 347, chassis number J2993, engine number 1774AT, red. Following on from the successful M-Type the J2 would establish the classic MG look of Abingdon sports cars into the 1950s. With its deep cut away doors, fold flat windscreen and fixed cycle type wings they epitomised the British sports car look. The new J2 featured the Wolseley derived 847cc overhead camshaft engine coupled to a four speed gearbox installed in a simple chassis frame equipped with 8 inch diameter brakes. By the standards of the day, handling and performance were perceived to be exemplary, and they endowed the MG with an exhilarating top speed of 65 mph. The previous owner a Mr John Biram purchased the MG from Bardsley Vale Filling Station, Ashton-Under Lyne in 1954 for the princely sum of £80 (receipt on file) and would retain the car until purchased by our vendor in 2011. Mr Biram had the MG fully restored from the chassis up by the well respected restoration company Marksdanes in the 1990s with hundreds of photographs on file showing all aspects of the ground up restoration. Since completion the MG has seen limited use, the J2 will be offered for auction with a history file containing photographs of the restoration, receipts from Marksdanes for the restoration work, maintenance receipts, previous MOTs, a parts list and an owner's instruction manual. RF60, V5C, MOT and tax exempt See illustrations All lots in this sale are sold as is and bidders must satisfy themselves as to the provenance, condition, age, completeness and originality prior to bidding.
