Lot 241

A Lund's Bristol scallop shell pickle dish, circa 1748-50The mould probably cast from an actual shell, painted in blue with a Chinese vase containing two feathers in front of a partly unrolled scroll, an insect in flight to one side, the border with three long feathers entwined with ribbons, a shell flanked by two leaves at the base, the underside with two leafy branches, 9.6cm longFootnotes:Chemical analysis of a distinctive class of 'Limehouse' pickle dishes has shown these to be primarily of the Mg-P-Pb type and therefore made from a formula containing soaprock. While some examples appear to be more highly vitrified or glassy than others, it seems likely that all were manufactured at Bristol. See Ray Jones, The Origins of Worcester Porcelain (2018), pp.248-51, where a dish with identical decoration is illustrated on p.249, no.JY5. Another similar dish was in the Susi and Ian Sutherland Collection sold at Bonhams on 3 October 2007, lot 107.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

1973 MG B Roadster Transmission: manualMileage:57124Conceived in the late 1950s and launched in 1962, the MGB would turn out to be one of the most successful sports cars of all time. Attractively styled, cheap to run and easily maintained by the home mechanic, the 'B' carried on MG's traditional role of providing affordable, sports car motoring for the ordinary enthusiast. The MGB was mechanically similar to the preceding MGA, though with a heavier, unitary construction bodyshell. To compensate for the newcomer's increased weight the existing B-Series engine was stretched from 1,622 to 1,798cc, while the MGB's aerodynamically efficient lines made the most of the maximum available 95bhp to achieve a top speed which just bested the magic 'ton'. A 'right first time' design that changed little over the years apart from the adoption of a more robust five-main-bearing engine in 1965 (fitted from the start of GT production that autumn) a minor facelift for 1970 and the adoption of plastic bumpers (to comply with US legislation) for 1975, the 'B' enjoyed an 18 year production life and sales totalling in excess of 500,000 cars. Its popularity remaining undiminished today, the classic MGB is one of the easiest sports cars of its era to run and maintain in the 21st Century, being served by a worldwide industry of spare parts and service providers. This MGB was registered on 25th October 1973 and has had only two owners in its 51 year lifetime. Presenting well in white with a contrasting black interior, we are informed this iconic British classic drives with no known faults. We are also informed that the hood has been replaced and works well. The history file for this low mileage example contains various servicing bills and receipts and an invoice for over £1,600 for works to the engine that were completed in September this year. The sale of this attractive MGB includes the cherished number plate, a V5C registration document and is offered without reserve.

Lot 131

1970 MG B GT Transmission: automaticMileage:44599The MGB was launched in May 1962 to replace the MGA. Introduced as a four-cylinder roadster, a Coupé with 2+2 seating was added in 1965 with production continuing until October 1980. The MGB GT sported a ground-breaking design by Pininfarina with the launch of its sporty 'hatchback' style. By combining the sloping rear window with the rear deck lid, the GT offered the utility of a hatchback while retaining the style and shape of a Coupé. The acceleration of the GT was slightly slower than that of the roadster due to its increased weight, although top speed was improved by 5mph to 105mph due to better aerodynamics. This stunning little MGB GT is presented in blue with contrasting black leather trim, an older restoration but in very good condition today, this example was purchased by our vendor in November 2015, garaged during winter months and is well maintained. The vendor reports that the MG runs and drives very well indeed and sounds superb when on song. The MGB is offered with many invoices detailing the restoration, previous MoT test certificates and the current UK registration document. Offered at no reserve, we are sure this wonderful example will be huge amounts of fun for its new custodian.Estimate £6,000 - £10,000Interested parties should note that the V5 for this car has been misplaced and a new one applied for. It will arrive in due course and once received it be processed for the new owner.

Lot 156

1961 MG A Competition Roadster Transmission: manualMileage:7850When the MGA arrived in 1955, it must have come as quite a shock to MG aficionados who had become accustomed to the pre-war look of the company's sports cars. It was a complete departure in styling and its beautiful streamlined body was right up to the minute in terms of appearance. It was powered by a new engine; MG had decided that the old XPAG unit had had its day and so introduced a much more modern B Series engine that had made its debut in the recently announced Magnette saloon. The 'A' was officially launched at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955. Only 5,869 cars were sold on the home market, giving the MGA the highest export percentage of any British car and was replaced by the MGB in May 1962.This race prepared MGA Competition Roadster was first registered in June 1961 to its first owner, Mr. H. J. Royal of W1 and still wears its original registration. Built by the late Ron Cody specifically to race and win in a number of race series, he enjoyed the car over a period of approximately 20 years. During this time the car saw many victories in the Equipe GTS race series and this success led to Ron being asked to build, restore and race-prepare cars for other competitors to the same high standard. Since the car last competed it has undergone a significant restoration, receiving a new livery of Rosso Corsa with Old English White striping. Most of the rebuild was carried out in 2015 with further works in 2020. The car has had little use since then, but is ready to go.Powered by a 1950cc B-Series engine, it produces a very respectable 178bhp. This high specification engine has notable features including; an Arrow steel billet crankshaft, Carrillo con-rods, Peter Burgess cylinder head, Piper camshaft and a Weber 48DCO/SP carburettor. Other noteworthy features of this highly developed car include an MGB close-ratio gearbox, Quaife limited-slip differential, alloy front wings, a new radiator with thermostatic fan and new electrical switches, new lighting wiring and up-rated suspension incorporating Koni telescopic dampers. Supplied with a UK V5C registration document, BMI Heritage Certificate and original buff logbook, this beautifully presented MGA is ready to race and win, being eligible for a number of historic race series.Interested parties should note that the reserve on this vehicle has been reduced.

Lot 157

1973 MG B GT V8 Transmission: manualMileage:11409The MGB was first introduced in May 1962 as a direct replacement for the MGA. Performance was brisk with power supplied by a 1798cc four-cylinder iron block engine set within a monocoque lightweight bodyshell with crumple zones incorporated. October 1965 saw the introduction of the GT which was based on the already popular roadster. Designed by Pinninfarina, the new GT sported a hatchback giving useful access to the rear luggage space and a rear bench seat that enabled the car to be called a 2+2. Although acceleration was slightly slower than the roadster, top speed was better by 5mph due to the increased aerodynamic efficiency. Ken Costello saw the possibility of fitting the larger aluminium 3528cc Rover P5B engine into the MG B GT having been sure that the handling and braking could be made to match the much improved performance; not that it needed significant changes as the V8 weighed in at around 40 pounds lighter than the four-cylinder iron blocked engine it replaced. Space was not a problem as the car had originally been designed for fitment of a V4 that was never produced. It was not until two years after the first Costello car that MG decided to follow suit. It was 1973 and the fuel crisis loomed; with British Leyland not wanting competition for the V8 engined Triumph Stag, prices of the MGB GT V8 were set high. Production ceased in 1976 with 2,591 units having been produced. Presented in black coachwork with black trim this genuine factory built MGB GT V8 has been in the current ownership since 2016 and has spent the last six years in the dry climate of the south of France with its British owner. Recently driven back from its extended holiday this example has returned to UK plates and presents well. Originally supplied with optional overdrive by Wadhams Ltd in Wiltshire in September 1973, repainted in black in 1999 as part of a full body restoration. Accompanying the car is a large history file, much of which was accumulated by Mr Turnbull who owned the car between 1993 and 2016. Included are details of a full engine rebuild with a blueprinted Rovercraft engine by Brown and Gammon Ltd (heritage specialists), countless MoT certificates and invoices, a Heritage certificate, V8 handbooks and a catalogue of photos of the car through previous ownership. V8 prices have been on the rise and it's hard not to see why; big engine with a little British sports car, like Sunbeam Tigers these cars are a riot to drive and incredible value.Interested parties should note that this vehicle is not currently sold with a V5 registration document. However, one has been applied for by the vendor with the DVLA and should arrive in due course.

Lot 217

1972 MG B GT Transmission: manualMileage:95500The MGB was first introduced in May 1962 as a direct replacement for the MGA. Performance was brisk with power supplied by a 1798cc four-cylinder iron block engine set within a monocoque lightweight bodyshell with crumple zones incorporated. October 1965 saw the introduction of the GT and was based on the already popular roadster. Designed by Pininfarina, the new GT sported a hatchback giving useful access to the rear luggage space and a rear bench seat that enabled the car to be called a 2+2. Although acceleration was slightly slower than the roadster, top speed was better by 5mph due to the increased aerodynamic efficiency. We are delighted to offer what can only be described as one of the finest examples of the MGB GT in the current market. Originally registered in August 1972, this GT has benefitted from a €˜no expense spared' total rebuild and now presents extremely well in gleaming white coachwork with a black interior. It is not difficult to see why this car is described by the vendor as 10/10 in every regard. The list of works undertaken is comprehensive and includes a bare metal respray, rebuilt engine and carburettors and rebuilt suspension all round. Many items were replaced including the brake master cylinder, clutch master cylinder, flexible brake hoses, copper brake pipes, water pump, alternator, starter motor, stainless exhaust system, distributor, coil and oil cooler. New front brake calipers and cross drilled discs were added with a stiffer anti-roll bar and telescopic rear shock absorbers. The fuel tank and pump were replaced and a new battery was fitted. The cars cosmetics were not overlooked during this process which includes re-chromed bumpers, new tyres, front grille, trim panels, carpets and a recommissioned dashboard. We are informed that as one would expect, there is literally nothing it needs. A great example of a fabulous British sportscar.

Lot 264

1980 MG B GT Transmission: manualMileage:96285The MGB was launched in May 1962 to replace the MGA. Introduced as a four-cylinder roadster, a Coupé with 2+2 seating was added in 1965 with production continuing until October 1980. The MGB GT sported a ground-breaking design by Pininfarina on launching the sporty 'hatchback' style. By combining the sloping rear window with the rear deck lid, the GT offered the utility of a hatchback while retaining the style and shape of a Coupé. This new configuration was a 2+2 design with a right-angled rear bench seat and far more luggage space than in the Roadster. Relatively few components differed although the MGB GT did receive different suspension springs and anti-roll bars and a modified windscreen which was more easily and inexpensively serviceable. Acceleration of the GT was slightly slower than that of the Roadster due to its increased weight. Top speed improved by 5mph to 105mph due to better aerodynamics. This interesting MGB GT Coupé was first registered on 1st August 1980 and has had just two owners from new. The MG has not been used much in recent years and as such requires recommissioning before use. It is also believed that the clutch or clutch master cylinder will need to be replaced before use. The history file that accompanies the car includes many old MoT test certificates and various significant maintenance bills. Offered without reserve we are sure this example, once recommissioned, will be huge amounts of fun for the new owner.

Lot 267

1987 MG Metro Transmission: manualMileage:69540The Metro is a supermini car, later, a city car that was produced by British Leyland and later, the Rover Group from 1980 to 1998. It was launched in 1980 as the Austin Mini Metro. It was intended to complement and eventually replace the Mini and was developed under the codename LC8. The Metro was named by What Car magazine as €˜Car of The Year' 1983 as an MG, and again as the Rover Metro in 1991. During its 18-year lifespan the Metro wore many names; Austin Metro, MG Metro and Rover Metro. It was rebadged as the Rover 100 series in December 1994.This enthusiast owned MG Metro was registered in March 1987 and presents well in white with a contrasting grey interior and is fitted with a Turbo body kit. The car has been extremely well cared for, rarely used and always garaged during the vendor's tenure. Recent documented expenditure has totalled nearly £3,000. The file for this 80's classic contains an earlier photographic restoration, various bills/receipts, lots of previous MoT test certificates and an original owner's handbook. Presented for auction with a V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until May 2023, this iconic car is offered without reserve.

Four speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels, 847ccs overhead camshaft four cylinder petrol engine. Bowden cable drum brakes canvas drop head on wire wheels. Dry stored for many years in a well known Welsh country repair garage, unfortunately the car has been somewhat vandalised after break ins at the premises and now does lack certain original features. However the 'bare bones' look eminently suitable for full restoration, to make a no doubt rare and valuable survivor of its type. Very few of the just over 2000 built remain and a project like this must be rarer still. Estate sale. No warranty of any kind implied or given in any way. Sold as seen. (B.P. 15% + VAT)No documents, as stated in description.
