A George V hallmarked silver mounted and purple guilloche enamel seven piece dressing table set, comprising hand mirror, length 25cm, hand brush, pair of coat brushes, comb (af), button hook and a shoe horn, Charles and Richard Comyns, London 1924, contained in leather suitcase with fitted interior (af), and with canvas cover, initialled UFM, 39 x 37 x 20cm, also a group of gloves including leather examples. CONDITION REPORT: Comb holder has major areas of loss to the enamel and with associated comb, also some losses to the enamel on the button hook which also has a detached handle, one of the coat brushes has losses to the enamel next to the edge. Mirror loose in frame. Some scratches throughout. The rest of the pieces appear to be in good condition. The fittings beneath the cover are intact but the silk compartments to the main part of the inside are distressed and the canvas cover with leather corners has traces of use commensurate with use, particularly rubbing to the corners and ripping around the handle aperture.
An Edwardian hallmarked silver mounted three piece dressing table set with engraved floral decoration, comprising a hand mirror, length 26cm, a hand brush and a coat brush, Henry Matthews, Birmingham 1906-1907, and an associated comb (af), London 1905 and a further white metal mounted hand mirror (unmarked) (5).
Victorian Departmental Officer’s Braided Frock Coat. An extremely rare mid 19th Century example of the roll collar pattern worn by officers of Army Medical Services, Ordnance, Pay and Veterinary Departments (see illustrations in 1900 Dress Regulations). Single-breasted blue coat by JB Johnstone of London & Dublin, with hook-and-eye front, edged and trimmed with black mohair braid forming five loops each side with two olivettes on each loop. Pointed cuffs edged with a double row of 1-inch black mohair, traced above and below with black Russia braid forming eyes, an Austrian knot and crowsfoot. Black mohair edging to back-skirts, forming a trefoil at the waist. Victorian Colonel’s embroidered rank-badges, and ribbons for Crimean medals and another campaign medal. Quilted black lining. Label named to Col. J.D.? Dalyell, Brigade Depot. Skirt lining frayed and slightly defective, medal-ribbons faded, minor external moth damage not significantly affecting the appearance, otherwise GC.
Early Victorian Staff Officer’s 1830 Box Pattern Epaulettes. An extremely rare example. Flat black or blue straps, edged and extensively covered with gold “saw-tooth” and other embroidery and bearing Staff pattern gilt frosted buttons edged with laurel leaves. Worked purl crescents. Within the crescents the initials ‘VR’ in gold embroidery on a silver ground cushion. Boxed gold bullions 3 in. long. Crimson velvet lining to crescents and red leather lining to straps. Laces for attachment to coat. Minor moth to one strap, otherwise GC bullion bright.
An usual small lightweight wooden example. Turned plain baluster shaped grip, the main body is turned and tapering to a carved crown pommel. The main section with painted decoration depicting a a pre 1801 Royal Coat of Arms. Original painted decoration can be found to the crown and handle. Remaining most of the original painted decoration. Length 10 inches.
Battle of Waterloo Period British 1796 Blue & Gilt Bladed Infantry Officer’s Sword. A good example with 32 inch straight single edged blade with half length blue and gilt decoration, this depicting a crowned GR cypher and Royal Coat of Arms. The gilt brass hilt with a single bar guard and urn shape pommel. The grip with silvered wire binding. Fitted with double shell guard, one folding. The cross guard terminates with a flower bud finial. Scabbard absent. 50% blue & gilt decoration remains.
Late 18th century, Irish School, in the manner of Charles Robertson (c. 1760-1821) Irish, portrait miniature on ivory depicting an Officer of a Royal Regiment of Infantry, wearing scarlet coat with blue facings and collar, gold epaulette, white frilled chemise and stock, his hair powdered, the image 6.5cm high.
Early 19th century, English School, portrait miniature on ivory of a young gentleman wearing a black coat and a white waistcoat and stock, numbered 14 on the reverse, the image 7cm high (frame a/f), together with an early 20th century three-quarter profile portrait on ivory of a young gentleman, wearing a grey suit and white wing collar, the image 5.3cm high.
