Important and Comprehensive Collection of Great War Papers, Orders, Maps, Photographs and Ephemera to a Highly Decorated Officer Major J.D.Crosthwaite (hon. Lieut-Colonel). After education at Uppingham School and its OTC, he became a Company Commander in the Norfolk Regiment in May 1915, having come across to France in March, after various Brigade attachments he commanded the 8th Norfolk’s and on its disbandment in 1918 he became O.C. 7th Royal West Kent regiment. On the opening day of the German March offensive in 1918 he was severely wounded and captured. A detailed account of this action in which Crosthwaite displayed great gallantry and in which his Company inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy is contained in Jerry Murland's recent book, "Retreat and Rearguard-Somme 1918 The Fifth Army Retreat". During his service on the Western Front Crosthwaite took part in many key battles, including Bois Grenier (1915), The Somme, including Gommecourt, the Battle of Arras, Ypres, including Poelcappel and of course the German March Offensive. He won the DSO & MC & Bar, Legion of Honour and received two mentions in despatches. (though these are not included here). The collection includes comprehensive and important Operation orders for September/October 1916 and for the Polcappelle Operations (53rd Brigade) together with associated Trench maps with objectives. There is also an outstanding range of original Trench Maps, (c.17) many 1,10,000 scale with unit details added and clearly used operationally by Crosthwaite (including 3rd Ypres, Broembeek, Vis-En-Artois, Arras, Somme etc. etc.). Also a number of aerial photographs, some oblique, and showing objectives and the devastation of the battlefields etc. Of particular interest are two exceptional rolled panoramas with an image taken from the front line trench, one of Arras and the other of Gommecourt, just prior to the Somme July Offensive (these are around 8 feet long!). Also two Official British SS Series reports, one on the Defence of Gommecourt on 1st July 1916. An interesting Album named to J.D.C.is included containing a number of family images, pre and early WWI military and a motor cycle trip to Brighton! Crosthwaite appears in a number of the photographs. There are a small number of photographs taken in the trenches, namely Costhwaite's dugout and of him standing on a duckboard in trench coat and wellington's and dated January 1918, also somewhat surprisingly there are a number of images of him in the German POW Camp in Karlsruhe, both with other Officers and also a group of recently captured Officers, many still with Steel helmets (one has been marked as Mayhew and Crosthwaite has sent the photo home to Banstead in Surrey in May 1918 to ask his mother to contact the Officers' "people" presumably to show this Officer is safe. Among many other items included are three German shoulder boards and a 1917 dated folding colour chart of Australian patches, In all a remarkable, comprehensive and important collection, viewing thoroughly recommended.
LIQUID METAL ALUMINIUM LMG-T 2000 - The body of a Liquid Metal Guitar starts as a solid block of 6061 T6 Aircraft Aluminum and is then hogged out until the perfect body thickness is achieved. This way the body is denser than wood and, when played, the strings energy stays intact much longer. This ultimately makes for a clearer, purer sound. The body is coated with a scratch resistant clear coat developed for use on ultra luxury cars. Seymour Duncan set about to design a custom set of pickups just for the Liquid Metal Guitar LMG T. Seymour wanted to make the pickups take advantage of the guitar’s energy. For the bridge pickup Seymour used a tapped pick up, where you have two tones coming out - very similar to what he did with Jeff Beck. The bridge has a ¼ pounder magnet reading around 15k. The neck pickup has a wide range semi-vintage sound reading around 9k and using Alnico 5 magnets. The neck is made of Canadian hard rock maple, shaped and sanded then tung oiled and sealed. This makes for perhaps the most organic feeling neck you will ever experience. It is fast and smooth and sweet to play. The fingerboard is a single piece of hand selected ebony and the nut is a self lubricating unit that increases sustain, improves the tone of open notes, eliminates tuning ping and allows the guitar to stay in tune. The guitar also uses Graphtech String Saverâ„¢ saddles that are a unique combination of materials that have been designed to enhance tone and dramatically reduce string breakage. In Liquid Metal hard case.
