Follower of Allan Ramsay (Scottish, 1713-1784) Portrait of Thomas Holt of Redgrave (1731-1799), half length, in a puce coat and waistcoat and lace stock, in a painted oval oil on canvas, in a carved and giltwood English frame of circa 1740 75 x 61cm (29 x 24in) Provenance: By descent within the family of the sitter at Redgrave Hall, Suffolk. Other Notes: Thomas Holt bequeathed the Redgrave Hall Estate to his sister Lucinda Wilson (nee Holt) from whence it passed into the Wilson family. Lined canvas. Heat in the lining has affected paint layer - noticeable in the sitter's hair, with uneven texture. A few areas of paint loss, but paint layer generally secure. Varnish is clear and glossy but slightly uneven. Retouchings mismatched - especially in the face. Frame has several losses to carbving.

A set of three George II hallmarked silver sugar casters comprising a single larger example and a smaller pair of baluster form with pierced domed cover surmounted with cast finial on spreading circular foot, engraved with Huxley of Cheshire family coat of arms, Samuel Welder, London 1730, height 15cm and 11cm, combined approx 10.1ozt (3). CONDITION REPORT: Large cast: good condition. Smaller: one with tiny hole (see photo), has also been sleeved so cannot see through holes at top; some small dents to other small cast.
A George V hallmarked silver backed three piece dressing table set comprising a circular hand mirror, length 26cm, a hand brush and a coat brush, each piece centred with a vacant oval cartouche within an ornamental and garland decoration, Chester 1910, a further matched two piece dressing table set, London and Birmingham 1929, and a silver plated mounted coat brush, also a pair of hallmarked silver mounted clear hobnail cut glass globular scent bottles, William Hutton & Sons Ltd, Birmingham 1904 and 1906, a further similar example, a hair tidy and a further small dressing table jar (11).
A set of Victorian hallmarked silver Kings pattern flatware crested with Dixon family coat of arms to the finials, comprising fifteen dessert spoons, fifteen table forks, fifteen smaller examples, William Rawlings Sobey, Exeter 1844, one example by Chawner & Co, London 1852 and a further set of six dessert forks crested with a Blackamoor bust in profile, John Round & Son, Sheffield 1901, also a pair of electroplated sauce ladles and a stilton scoop, combined silver approx 119ozt.
A Victorian hallmarked silver mounted and gilt "Ancient Order of Foresters" jewel depicting coat of arms and supporters, inscribed "Instituted From Time Immemorial", awarded for past services as Chief Ranger, hallmarked for Ezekiel Loewenstark, London 1870, diameter 9cm including point of the octagonal star, also a certificate for Brother James Henry Grindey, dated 2nd January 1937 (2).
A pair of 19th century Meissen figures of a boy and a girl staring down at a broken mirror, height 16cm. CONDITION REPORT: The boy has some nibbles to the left hand edge of his coat and to the front underside of his hat, there are also some chips to the circular base, the girl has a chip to the top of the mirror which lies on the floor, a chip to the top edge of her shawl at the back, and an old repair to her neck.
