Il travailla notamment pour les rois Guillaume III et Guillaume IV. On cite aussi de lui le vitrail de l`église Saint-Bride représentant la Descente de Croix d`après Rubens. École flamande vers 1600, entourage d’Otto VENIUS (Leyde 1556 – Bruxelles 1629) « Le repas chez Saint Simon » Huile sur toile (sans cadre, quelques usures et petit accident) 134,5 x 98,5 cm Comme la Cène, le repas chez Saint Simon convenait particulièrement à la décoration des réfectoires des convents et des monastères, et fut par conséquent l’un des épisodes de la vie du Christ le plus souvent représenté. Lors d’un repas chez Saint Simon le pharisien, la pécheresse Marie-Madeleine lave les pieds du Christ qui lui pardonne alors ses péchés. On retrouve dans notre tableau l’influence du peintre Otto Venius qui fut le maître de Rubens à Anvers.

Otherwise dirt spots and would brighten up considerably after cleaning. A small amount of crazing to the paint throughout the canvas. Frame with a few splits, but otherwise OK. Dirty needs cleaning.

Rubens/ ne a Siegen 1577/ mort a Anvers 1640.` Flemish Baroque painter, Cornelis de Vos worked on a number of occasions in collaboration with Peter Paul Rubens (1577 - 1640). This included an order by Rubens to assist in the completion of twelve royal portraits, in 1635, fro the purpose of the joyous entry of Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand. 124cm x 100cm.

After MICHELANGELO (1475 - 1564) Framed, unsigned miniature on ivory, showing Leda and the Swan with an ivory and mother of pearl frame. Indistinctly inscribed verso. Composition is reminiscent of Michaelangelo`s interpretation of the Greek myth repeatedly portrayed through history in both paintings and literature. The myth tells of Zeus`s seduction and rape of Leda, whilst disguised as a swan. Both Leonardo and Michaelangelo painted scenes of the seduction although both have been lost or destroyed and remain only through copies, such as that by Peter Paul Rubens (1577 - 1640) painted c.1598.

La seconde partie de l`ouvrage rapporte des biographies de l`auteur (e.a. par Pierre Halloix, Méthode Ier et la Souda) et traite de 4 questions relatives à l`oeuvre et à la vie du pseudo-Denys. L`identité du Pseudo-Denys, auteur de traités de théologie mystique, est incertaine et fait l`objet de plusieurs suppositions. Il fut identifié au Denys l`Aréopagite d`Athènes mentionné dans les Actes des apôtres ou à Saint Denis, 1er évêque de Paris, martyrisé en 300. Il pourrait toutefois s`agir vraisemblablement d`un moine syrien qui vécut vers 500. École FRANÇAISE vers 1651, atelier de Juste d`Egmont. Portrait de Gaston d`Orléans (1608-1660). Toile. 126 x 97 cm. Restaurations anciennes. Annoté en bas à gauche : "Gaston fils de France Duc d`Orléans 1651". Provenance : ancienne collection Welles Bostworth à Marietta (Vaucresson, Hauts-de-Seine). Notre portrait représente Gaston de France, duc d`Orléans (1608-1660), fils d`Henri IV et de Marie de Médicis, frère de Louis XIII. Représenté en armure, portant le bâton de commandement de la main gauche, le bras droit appuyé sur un socle de pierre portant l`inscription: "Gaston. Fils de France. Duc d`Orléans.1651." Homme cultivé, célèbre pour ses intrigues, Gaston d`Orléans s`est opposé à Richelieu puis Mazarin. En 1651, année de la majorité de Louis XIV, il se rallie aux frondeurs, et multiplie les attaques contre Mazarin. L`année suivante, alors que Louis XIV parvient à mettre un terme à la Fronde, Gaston d`Orléans, contraint de signer sa soumission, est exilé à Blois où il finira ses jours. Le château de Blois lui doit beaucoup. Est-ce à ces années de troubles que l`arrière-plan du tableau fait référence ? Ou bien aux nombreuses victoires militaires de Gaston ? En effet, dès 1628, il commande l`armée lors du siège de La Rochelle. Puis à la mort de Louis XIII, il est nommé lieutenant-général du royaume. C`est ainsi qu`au cours des années 1640 il mène campagne contre les Espagnols et conquiert une partie des Flandres. Juste d`Egmont (1601-1674) est l`un des portraitistes les plus importants du règne de Louis XIII. Il collabore auprès de Rubens à la réalisation du décor du palais du Luxembourg commandé par Marie de Médicis en 1621 et participe, à la demande de Simon Vouet et Philippe de Champaigne, à la Galerie des Hommes illustres au Palais Cardinal. Signe de sa parfaite intégration, Juste d`Egmont est l`un des douze fondateurs de l`Académie royale de peinture et sculpture en 1648. Après une vingtaine d`années passées à Paris, l`artiste retourne à Anvers, ville dans laquelle il finit sa carrière. On pourra comparer ce portrait à celui d`Henri III, duc de Montmorency, vendu à Paris le 14 novembre 2008, lot 48 (Me Libert, atelier de Juste d`Egmont).
