Sight (t'Gesicht), Smell (De Reuck) & Taste (De Smaek), from the series The Five Senses (De Vijf Zintuigen), circa 1642-1650, together 3 etchings on laid paper by Jan Both after his brother Andries, with foolscap watermark to each, numbered 1, 3 & 5 lower left or lower right, plate size 224 x 176 mm (8.8 x 6.9 ins) and similar, with margins, (the first plate with upper left corner repaired and extreme lower left corner with slight loss, just touching plate mark), early 19th century ink ownership initials WC to lower right corner of each plate, and inscription in brown ink to verso of the first plate with the Bartsch reference and '1829 WE Josi's sale 5 Pcs N 160' Barsch 11-15. Provenance: Christian Josi (died 1828), printmaker and art dealer, who inherited the collections of Cornelis Ploos van Amstel in 1800. Sold Christie's, March 1829. William Esdaile (1758-1837), banker and collector, who lived on Clapham Common, and whose picture collection included works by Durer, Ostade, Rubens, Ruisdael, Richard Wilson and Gainsborough. (3)

Frontespizio allegorico inciso da Galle su disegno di Rubens, 8 tavole a piena pagina di stemmi ed alberi genealogici, numerosissimi emblemi a mezza pagina, il tutto finemente inciso in rame (manca il ritratto, esemplare composto, macchie e bruniture su alcune carte.) Legatura coeva in bazzana con grande stemma araldico in oro ai piatti, fregi e titolo in oro al dorso (taglio al piatto anteriore, abile restauro alle estremità del dorso). Famosa opera emblematica. Nel lotto anche un esemplare composto della prima ed unica edizione di Giulio Cesare Capaccio, Delle imprese nell’edizione napoletana del 1592. (2 volumi) € 250

A large Hancock and Sons Rubens Ware 'pomegranate' pattern printed and painted vase by F X Abraham, 32cm high CONDITION REPORT: The glaze is heavily crazed and cracked although this is only visible on close inspection, and whilst there are no chips or cracks the vase does not 'ring' when tapped and therefore there are one or more hairline cracks that I have not found.
Forty-seven reproduced images as used by the Victoria and Albert Museum of various studies to include figure studies by old masters, Sir Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640), Sir Peter Lely (1617-1680), Bernardino Passeri, Claude Gilloi (1673-1722) and many others, also some 20th century reproductions of lithographs to include Louis Le Bracquy (b1916-), Pablo Picasso etc, each measures 38 x 21cm (47).

After Otto Octavius van Veen (1556-1629) - Portrait of the Roman Emperor Caligula; Galba; and Vitellius A group of three, oil on panel in painted ovals Inscribed C.C AE Caligula , Serg. Galba ., and A. Vitellius Each c.22.5 x 18 cm. (8 3/4 x 7 in), (3) Traditionally thought to relate to a lost series of Roman Emperors by Rubens, but now understood to derive from two partially complete sets by Van Veen and his workshop, one in the Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart, and another that sold at Christie s (see: Vervoordt sale, Kasteel van s-Gravenwezel, 10-12 May 2004, lot 143).
ATTRIBUTED TO MILES EDMUND COTMAN (1810-1858) STUDY OF A LION, AFTER RUBENS Bears signature Cotman, washes and black crayon heightened with touches of white 29 x 44cm. * After an original drawing by Rubens, 28 x 43cm, c.1620 (British Museum, London). In 1842, John Sell Cotman died and was succeeded by his son Miles as the drawing master at King's College, London. This drawing may date from between 1836 (when he first assisted his father at King's College) and c.1852 when he returned to Norwich due to failing health. ++ Needs a clean; some discoloration; faint crease lower left corner
A quantity of pipes, 19th century, comprising a clay pipe carved with the Crystal Palace and leaves, 19.5cm long, further clay pipe commemorating the Coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, 16cm long, Gambier pipe carved with the head of Rubens, pipe carved as a bird's claw and egg, engraved Eskis Ehir, 13cm long, meerschaum carved as a lady, 16cm long, cased, and plain briarwood and amber pipe, 16cm long, also cased. Newly translated out of the Originall tongues and with former translations diligently compared and revised by his Majesties speciall command..., [Amsterdam]: Printed in the Year 1672, additional engraved title (detached & frayed to edges), four double page engraved maps including double hemisphere map of the world showing California as an island (the map is sometimes attributed to Cornelius Danckerts or Jacob Savry and bears similarities to various maps issued by Visscher) and maps of the Holy Land, Extra Illustrated with 113 contemporary double-page engraved plates by Visscher after Bloemaert, d'Hondecoeter, de Vos, Rubens, van Heemskerck, de Brun, de Bruyn, van Winghe etc. (few torn mostly to central fold), engraved plate of Christ on the cross to upper pastedown (wormed & some manuscript inscription, each leaf of text neatly guarded to extended gutter margin, some closed tears and marginal fraying, some browning & spotting, few worm holes, near contemporary blind stamped calf, decorative brass corner pieces, lacking clasps, rebacked, boards rubbed and scuffed, folio Herbert 708 & Darlow & Moule 557, which calls for map of the World and two other maps (by Jacob Savry).
