With printed greetings ""With Best Wishes For Christmas And The New Year"" and the Queen `s signature ""Elizabeth R"" in blue pen ink. Opposite the signed page is a mounted colour photograph of Peter Paul Rubens` painting ""The Holy Family with Saint Francis"", from the Royal Collections. Overall size 21.5 x 44.3cm when opened. Light wear to margins, and a few glue residues stains to front cover, but otherwise in good condition.

Frontespizio inciso in rame, ritratto calcografico del Loyola e 79 carte di tavole incise in rame. Buon esemplare. Legatura coeva in pergamena rimontata. Nota di possesso di difficile lettura al frontespizio e timbro di collezione al verso del ritratto `A.B. - P. S.`. Prima rara edizione. Questo libro pensato a lungo dalla Compagnia di Gesù fu edito in occasione della beatificazione del Fondatore della Compagnia. Le 79 tavole contengono il primo elaborato ciclo di immagini che illustra la vita del Santo, a partire dalla nascita nel 1491, la sua conversione, il suo viaggio in Terra Santa etc. Il fatto che un libro così complesso da realizzare sia uscito in contemporanea alla data della sua beatificazione fa pensare che la Compagnia avesse preparato il tutto da lungo tempo come parte di una strategia tesa a pubblicizzare la santità di Ignazio e propagandarne le idee. Ciò è avvalorato dal fatto che - benché il libro sia stato pubblicato a Roma - le incisioni sono frutto del lavoro della bottega dei Galle di Anversa fra i cui artisti si può citare Pieter Paul Rubens che senz`altro idea e disegna la tavola n°64 (Sant`Ignazio presenta gli studenti del Collegio Germanico a Papa Giulio III) e probabilmente anche altre tavole. Le immagini di questo libro furono usate come modelli per le stampe e i libri che videro la luce in Europa e fuori da essa: dal Perù alla Cina. Choix, 256: ""Les excellentes figures represent la vie et les miracles du Saint, gravees d`un grande finesse et elegance, avec quelques lignes de text latin egalement gravées""; Brunet V, 1317; Vinciana, n°4324; non in Sommervogel; cfr.
