Trade Catalogue. Woodson Wallpapers, Billy Baldwin Collection, New York, circa 1960s, containing 77 large original samples of wallpaper printed on washable vinyl, comprising 9 designs in various colours, each with printed specification to verso, original cloth, folio, sample sheet size 493 x 320mm Woodson Wallpapers was founded by A. Woodson Taulbee in 1956, and was particularly well known for its use of bright colours and vivid designs. The firm was credited with have re-introduced the trend of using matched wallpapers and fabrics within a room. The New York interior designer William Baldwin, Jr. (1903-1983), known as Billy Baldwin started design work in 1935 for Ruby Ross Wood and took over the firm in 1950 on her death. In 1952, he formed his own firm, Baldwin and Martin, with Edward Martin. They designed the homes and apartments of many famous people, including the White House of John F. Kennedy. His clients included Cole Porter, Rachel Lambert Mellon and Paul Mellon, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and Barbara Hutton. Billy Baldwin also designed Woodson Taulbees apartment. (1)
