δ Hitler.- Nazi Germany.- Fearon (Percy Hutton) "Poy" "Hitler in Fatherland", pen and ink cartoon, pencil caption beneath, showing Hitler dressed as Alice with extra long arms and neck, while eating a giant biscuit that is inscribed 'Prussian Diet', with quote from Alice in Wonderland in the upper right that reads: '"Curiouser and curiouser!" cried Alice; "now I'm opening out like the largest telescope that ever was!"', signed, 355 x 290 mm., 1932.⁂ Despite losing the Presidential election in March 1932 to Paul von Hindenburg, Hitler's NSDAP won 37.3% of the popular vote in the federal election of July 1932 (an upswing by 19 percentage points), becoming the largest party in the Reichstag. δ Hitler.- Reichstag fire.- Fearon (Percy Hutton) "Poy" "Hints to Incendiaries", pen and ink cartoon with some blue pencil shading, pencil caption beneath, showing a burning pile of rubble inscribed 'Reichstag', with a ball of flames above with the face of Hitler and the swirling text 'Retaliation' which has burnt the coat tails of a man who runs from the scene and who is inscribed with the text 'German Red', signed, 387 x 294 mm., [1933].⁂ The Reichstag fire was an arson attack on the Reichstag building in Berlin on 27 February 1933, one month after Adolf Hitler had been sworn in as Chancellor of Germany. The National Socialist party stated that Marinus van der Lubbe, a Dutch council communist, was found near the building and who later claimed to have acted alone. Grotesque balloon shooting will again be a feature at today's Great Display at Hendon", pen and ink cartoon with some blue pencil shading, pencil caption beneath, with Hitler flying a military aircraft with machine gin firing at balloons of various German political parties, with a 'Nazi Spirit Filling Station' and 'Brown Shirt Factory' on the ground to the right, signed, 315 x 385 mm., 1933.⁂ Hendon Aerodrome was an aerodrome in London, England, and was an important centre for aviation from 1908 to 1968. In March 1933, the Enabling Act, an amendment to the Weimar Constitution, passed in the Reichstag and allowed Hitler and his cabinet to pass laws-even laws that violated the constitution-without the consent of the president or the Reichstag. δ The America's Cup.- Sailing.- Fearon (Percy Hutton) "Poy" "Heave-Ho!", pen and ink cartoon, pencil caption beneath, with the national personification of the United States as Uncle Sam, who stands beside an enormous America's Cup trophy that is fixed to the ground, another figure attempts to lever the trophy free while using a 'triangular course' as a pivot, signed, 280 x 387 mm., 1934⁂ The 1934 America's Cup was raced between the British sailing yacht Endeavour and the American Rainbow, with the series of races being full of controversy. "Composing the Valentine", pen and ink cartoon with some blue pencil shading, pencil caption beneath, a seated Gandhi is presented with a large diamond inscribed 'India' from a goat wearing a hat inscribed 'Gus', with 'Gus' depicted again below penning the inscription 'A Gift I send - My Valentine - All that you ask for shall be thine.
