A 1967 Jaguar 420, registration number PLB 847E, chassis number P1F2910BW, cream. Introduced in October 1966 and seen as being the ultimate in compact sporting saloons, the 420 was essentially a restyled S-Type answering some of the criticism levied at the latter's awkward styling. As the name suggested, all cars came with the XK 4.2 six cylinder engine feed by twin carburetors producing a claimed 245bhp. Inside, the wood trim of the S-Type was replaced with padded Rexine but high grade leather still featured heavily in what was a thoroughly British cockpit. This example was first registered in June 1967 to a transport haulier in Romford who subsequently sold the car after just three years to a hotel owner in Kensington. The car remained in his ownership for the next 39 years retiring to Bournemouth with its second keeper in 2007. In February 2009, the Jaguar was sold to a collector in West Wiltshire where it has remained to this day. It comes with a comprehensive service history from 1970-2001 and most MOT certificates from 1970 to the present day. RF60, V5C, MOT to June 2016 See illustration
