Age flower studies (x2), Posca paint pen on yellow painted A4 paper and stamped Grey Organisation 1988 in black ink along lower margin; D.A.I.S.Y. Age text studies (x2), Posca paint pen on yellow painted A4 paper and stamped Grey Organisation 1988 in black ink along lower margin; and text artwork, Posca paint pen on acetate overlay bearing the band name, stamped Grey Organisation along lower right margin, the larger 32.5 x 32.5cm (12 3/4 x 12 3/4in) each; the smaller 20 x 25.5cm (8 x 10in) each,Footnotes:In 1988, Tommy Boy Records contracted the Grey Organization to create a visual graphic identity for the hip hop group, De La Soul, comprising Kelvin 'Posdnous' Mercer, Dave 'Trugoy the Dove' Jolicoeur, and Vincent 'Pasemaster Mase' Mason, including art direction for their debut album, 3 Feet High And Rising. Released on March 3, 1989, the album became a critical and commercial landmark of late 20th century pop culture, selling millions of copies worldwide and expanding the vocabulary of hip hop as an emerging art form.In 1998, 3 Feet High And Rising was named as one of 'The Source' magazine's '100 Best Rap Albums' of all time. In 2010, the US Library Of Congress selected the album for inclusion in the National Recording Registry, which identifies American sound recordings 'that are culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.'In an article for 'The Guardian' newspaper on the occasion of the album's 25th anniversary, Toby Mott recounted his collaboration with the group. Their starting point was De La Soul's psychedelic 'D.A.I.S.Y. age' concept (according to Posdnous, '...we coined the term 'the daisy age' after we noticed a nightgown in a store that had a picture of Minnie Mouse holding a daisy on it. Although the daisy stood for 'Da Inner Sound Y'All', it was also about suggesting a sunnier style of rap.') and Grey Organization developed a visual concept that incorporated the now iconic dayglo flower motifs associated with the group's early period. For the album cover photo shoot, De La Soul visited the Grey Organization's loft, where Mott asked Posdnuos, Trugoy and Mase to lie down on the floor, facing up, so their heads would form a triangle. 'We [Mott and photographer Marie Hennechart] photographed them precariously from the top of a step ladder, one idea being that the cover would not have a right way up.' Since compact discs had not yet become the dominant musical format, the design process centered on production for the album's 12inch LP record sleeve. Working at scale, Mott layered brightly colored hand-drawn flower designs made with Posca paint pens on acetate as an overlay for Hennechart's black and white portrait of the group. 'This was well before the time of Apple Macs and scanning,' Mott recalls. 'Our intent was to be new and bright, with the overlaying of the fluorescent flowers and text reflecting a synthetic pop cartoon look. For De La Soul, it was a self-conscious move away from the prevailing macho hip hop visual codes of the era, which continue to dominate today.' [Note: The final album cover layout based on this artwork is credited to graphic designer Steven Migilo]. Grey Organization provided tour support and directed two videos for the group, Potholes On My Lawn and Say No Go, 1988 and 1989 respectively.Toby Mott's relationship with music started when he was a teenager. Mott was 13 in 1977, when Punk exploded in London. His career encompasses co-founding East London art group, the Grey Organisation, in the early 1980s, creating the cover artwork offered here and designing the fashion line, Toby Pimlico.'Not only do I love this album, I also love the playful element of the design and the vibrancy of the colours. I have strong memories of seeing this album in the record stores when it was released and it was so incredibly eye-catching. I think the childlike illustrations really match the story telling style of De La Soul's music. So much joy!' - Camille WalalaFor further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

2002 BMW Z3 2.2i - One OwnerMake: BMWModel: Z3 SportYear: 2002Mileage: 67357VIN: WBACN12050LK17363Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: MD02XCNTransmission: ManualLaunched in 1995 as a follow-up to BMW's quirky Z1 roadster, the compact Z3 was a major success for the German company, adding a small, fun open top sports car to its range. Initially only available with a 1.9-litre four-cylinder engine, more potent six-cylinder versions soon followed. This 2171cc 168bhp six-pot example was registered in August 2002 and has had just one registered lady owner throughout its life, during which it has covered 67,358 miles. This total is confirmed by the full service history, with stamps at 9020, 14,685, 27058, 36660, 50958, 60571 and 67223 miles, the latter service having been carried out in May of this year. The current MoT runs until the end of January 2022. The car's spec includes heated black leather sports seats, power roof and electric windows. Overall, this BMW is in very good order; there's some minor lacquer peel on the rear bumper and a few age-related exterior blemishes, but the hood is in nice condition, as is the interior. The vendor reports that the car 'drives A1'. Included in the history file is the V5C plus original document wallet with owner's handbook, dealer warranty and emergency service booklet, care guide, accident management reference guide, radio instructions, European service contacts list, servicing explanation sheet and the actual service booklet. The car also comes with three keys plus one slave key, as well as the locking wheel nut key tool. PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR VIDEO PRODUCED 22ND OCTOBER BY ACA OF THIS CAR.
1974 Ford Escort RS 2000Make: Ford Model: Escort RS 2000Year: 1974Mileage: 0VIN: BFATPU00032Configuration: Right Hand DriveRegistration: GKM148NTransmission: manualUnlike the Anglia before it, the Ford Escort was available in several sporty performance forms, such as the Twin-Cam, RS1600, Mexico and RS2000. The latter, as here, had a 100bhp 1993cc overhead-cam Pinto engine and offered 100mph performance plus a lot of rear-wheel drive fun in a quite compact package. It was almost as fast as the more complicated RS1600 but as easy to look after and maintain as the Mexico, with which it shared its bodyshell. The car was launched in England on 11 October 1973 priced at £1586. This particular Escort RS2000 is an original, UK-supplied right-hand drive car delivered registered on 5 November 1974, finished in Stardust Silver with black with Charcoal cloth interior and polished wood dash inserts. After a series of owners, it had a period of over 10 years in storage in the early 2000s, after which it was partially restored, with a view to preservation rather than renewing. New old-stock front wings and a bonnet were sourced and fitted, and there was some paintwork. The original bumpers and rear light surrounds were re-chromed, the front and rear seats re-upholstered and the brake callipers overhauled and refitted. The history folder contains the V5C (noting 11 former registered keepers), an original sales brochure, assorted invoices (with several from around 2015 when the renovation work seems to have taken place), service book (but only with two stamps, up to 7136 miles in 1975), owner's manual, workshop manual supplement, tax discs from 1976 to 1998, and MoTs from 1989 to 1991, 1993, 1996 to 1997, 2006 and 2015. The odometer reading is 80,496 miles. Externally, the car is in very good order, albeit it with its rear RS2000 badge missing. The interior is also good, although the driver's sun visor is absent, the choke cable is loose and hanging down, the clock doesn't appear to be working, and some of the grey switches exhibit some mottling. A bonus fitment is the period Pioneer tape deck. The car seems to have spent some years unused, and so will therefore need some recommissioning to be returned to the road.
