A Chinese platinum and jade lotus brooch, mid-century, designed as a lotus spray, the single flower and roots set with graduated cabochon spinach jade stones, 6.7cm. long, in a 'The Orient Jewel Co., 87 Regent Street, London W.1.' box.. Good condition, with no faults. No damage to stones or metal. Stones secure and pin working correctly.
Three Chinese jade style hardstone carvings, 20th century, comprising a covered tripod censer, in pale green hardstone, of bellied form with large, Buddhist lion mask loose ring handles and similar finial to cover, on three lion mask and paw feet, 5½in. (14cm.) high; a similar vase with loose ring lion mask finials and kylin finial, in pale green hardstone, 7in. (17.8cm.) high; and a figure of a saddled horse, in pale grey-green and biscuit mottled hardstone, 4 1/8in. (10.5cm.) high, the latter two with fitted boxes, all with hardwood stands. (3) - Censer: VG, no faults. Natural crack showing in one loose ring handle. - Pale green vase: Tiny bruise to edge of cover. Otherwise good, with no other faults - Horse: Lower half of back left leg has been off, with glued repair. No other faults.
A Chinese carved jade archaic bronze form covered vase, second half 20th century, in black, brown and ochre mottled celadon stone, carved with taotie masks, with loose ring elephant head handles and cover with ram finial, 6½in. (16.5cm.) high, in a silk box with hardwood stand. VG condition, with no faults.
A Chinese pale grey and dark brown jade group of three kid goats, probably Qing dynasty, the three goats sharing a meal of ruyi fungi, a yin-yang symbol between them, skilfully highlighted with a darker inclusion to the jade, symbolising good luck and happiness, 4.5cm. long, 2.8cm. high, weight 54.8g, with hardwood stand. Good condition, with no damage - no chips, bruises or cracks.
A Chinese pale celadon carving of an elderly man and fo dog, probably Qing dynasty, the robed man wearing a head band in his long hair, ending in a curl to his back, holding a ball, a fo dog lying on its back at his feet, 7.5cm. high, with later hardwood stand. Good condition, with no chiprs or other damage. There are a few natural cracks to the jade, some of which have been cleverly integrated into detail within the carving.
A Chinese carved pale grey jade toggle, probably Qing dynasty, the pale grey jade suffused with dark grey inclusions and veining, of cylindrical form with slightly flared ends, carved with a dragon and pearl, 4.7cm. long, minor chips to ends. One small chip to the edge at one end, the other end with three small chips to edge. These are old, with ingrained dirt. No other faults.
A Chinese celadon jade snuff bottle, of rectangular form with rounded shoulders and shallow, slightly inset foot, the coral stopper carved with a bixie, 7cm. high, 3.7cm. wide. Stopper possibly later. Four minute chips to jade at one side of foot and tiny bruise to corner of other side of foot. No other faults.
Two Chinese carved jade pendants, probably 20th century, archaic form, comprising one of axe head form, in dark brown mottled mutton fat jade, carved with two bixies and ruyi fungi below a Buddhist lion, 7.1cm. long; the other of bi-disc form, in celadon and brown/russet jade, carved with masks and chilong, 9.1cm. long. (2) Old chip (or possibly rough natural flaw in stone) to edge of bi-disc. No other faults.
A Chinese silver and celadon jade magnifying glass, early 20th century, the lens within a pierced silver frame with squirrels, leaves and vine fruit, the handle faced with a pierced celadon jade plaque carved with auspicious symbols including a ruyi fungi and lotus root, the silver handle chased with a peony to the reverse, marked 'Silver', 7 5/8in. (19.3cm.) long. In good condition, with no faults. No damage to the jade.
Nine Chinese jade carvings, all probably 20th century, including a praying mantis, a disc carved with three chilong, a smaller pale celadon disc with two chilong, a similar carving of rounded, rectangular form, two dragon pendants, a carving of a chilong and a bat on a lotus leaf; and two archaic style axe head pendants, the largest 7.2cm. long. Two large Chinese jade bi-discs, of archaic form, late 20th century, one in celadon jade with extensive, heavy calcification, carved with two dragons and leafy scrolls, 9¼in. (23.25cm.) long; the other in ochre and dark russet mottle jade, carved in bas relief with a band of archaic dragons around an inner band of ruyi decoration, 6in. (15.2cm.) diameter. (2) Both in good condition. The celadon disc has one tiny chip to the edge.
A Chinese bronze and calcified jade Northern Wei figure of Guanyin, probably 20th century, with heavy verdigris patination, Guanyin standing in front of a lotus petal shaped mandorla, with a border of flames, inscription verso, the four legged base mounted atop a mottled, pale celadon jade square tapered base, carved with masks and with dragon handles, 8½in. (21.5cm.) high. Two small chips to corners of the jade base. The jade and base of the bronze with some heavily encrusted deposits, which may be artificial aging. A small fracture to one of the legs of the stand on the bronze.
A Chinese Zhou style carved jade figure of a rabbit, in mottled grey and pale biscuit jade, the crouching rabbit with its ears flattened to its back, a line of reeded fur along its back, carved with ruyi and other symbols, 5 3/8in. (13.5cm.) long; together with an archaistic mythical bird, in stained pale celadon jade, 3in. (7.6cm.) high, 20th century. (2) Both in good condition, with no damage to the jade.
A large Chinese carved jade of a chilong consuming a ruyi fungi, 20th century, in mottled celadon, grey, russet and caramel jade, 7¼in. (18.5cm.) long; together with a smaller jade of two long bodied dragons with a pearl on a lotus leaf, 20th century, in pale grey, dark grey and russet jade, 6.2cm. long. (2)
A Chinese jade dragon form pendant, Han Dynasty style, carved in the form of a long bodied dragon, with comma spirals decorated to the closely curled S-shaped body, terminating in a short tail with a curled tip, the celadon jade with extensive opaque white inclusions and calcification, 15cm. long.
A Chinese champleve enamel and gilt metal oval box, probably 19th / early 20th century, the lid with a pierced mutton fat jade mount, with flowers and shou symbol, within a border of enamel flowers, two bats and leafy scrolls, the sides with Greek key and diaper decoration, 3 1/8 x 2¾in. (7.9 x 7cm.), 1 3/8in. (3.5cm.) high.. * Engrained dirt throughout and gilt worn/dulled. No damage to jade or enamel. Gilt to base has some wear and an old sticker mark. Staining to base of interior.
A Chinese jade mountain carving, probably Qing Dynasty, 18th century, in celadon jade with white mottled inclusions, depicting a mountain range with a deer beneath the boughs of a fir tree to one side, its head turned upwards, a ruyi fungi growing to the other, on a hardwood stand carved with gnarled fir branches and roots, 4 1/8 x 2in. high, the stand 4 5/8 x 1in. high. (2). * Very old chip to top edge of the mountain at the left hand side. No other damage or faults. The stand has some fading to the front and is very dusty, but no other faults.
A 19TH CENTURY CARVED JADE AND HARDWOOD CHINESE TWO HANDLED KORO AND COVER with finely pierced lid fitted with a green glass finial; the body carved band depicting dragons and geometric shapes.11cm wide 7cm high There are natural hairlines in the jade in the body, no damage, losses or repairs.
Western Jin Dynasty, 265-317 A.D. A ceramic standing horse with the hindlegs slightly apart and bent, tail erect, integrally modelled saddle with saddlecloth, bridle ornaments on muzzle and forelock; supplied with a made-to-measure stone base. For a similar example see a sculpture from the Birmingham Museum of Art, accession no.1979.321; cf. Hajeck et al., A Book of Chinese Art, four thousand years of sculpture, painting, bronze, jade, lacquer and porcelain, Spring Books, 1966, item 28, for type. 4.7 kg total, 27 cm including stand (10 5/8 in.). Acquired 1980-1990s. Ex West Country collection. Property of a Bristol, UK, gentleman. The Western Jin pottery horses tend to be modelled on the stocky and short-legged Mongolian breed, unlike their more graceful Han Dynasty predecessors. This type of horse was formerly attributed to the Han period; developments within the field of archaeology have since re-attributed them to the Six Dynasties era (3rd-6th century A.D.)
