A CHINESE EMBROIDERED SILK SKIRT FRAGMENT, A GILT-METAL MOUNTED KINGFISHER FEATHER, CORAL AND STONE-MOUNTED HAIRPIN, CIRCA 1900, A 20TH CENTURY JADE CLOISONNE AND WHITE METAL MOUNTED BROOCH AND AN ONYX BEADED NECKLACE. The blue and ivory skirt fragment embroidered with peony, butterflies and other flowers, the hairpin with pearl, green hardstone, quartz and coral mounted floral design, the pale jade mounted brooch carved and pierced with precious objects, the shaped oval mount stamped SILVER, the dark onyx beaded necklace with 18k yellow gold barrel-shaped clasp (4) The skirt is a strip shaped fragment, probably from the hem, and as such it has some fraying at edges, some wear tearing and loose threads. Some of the blue panelled edges have lost stitching and are coming away. Slight staining and wear overall. The hairpin- noticeable restored/overpainted losses to the kingfisher feathers, losses to coral and green hardstones and rubbing to pearl, wear and Verdigris to gilt metal mount. The necklace is in good order and the clasp is functioning well. The pin on the brooch is slightly misshapen but functioning. Otherwise ok.

Group of five Chinese metal, likely silver, hairpins. One hairpin with a jade carved to resemble a flower. One large hairpin with a reticulated dragon flanked by a bat and a phoenix.Length ranges from 6 in to 7 1/4 in.Condition: All components are present and firmly attached. Some light discoloration and oxidization to the metal. The jade appears to be in good condition with no chips, cracks, or losses. There are heavy losses to the pigment of the metal components of the jade pin, the shaft of the pin is bent and the spring is slightly bent. The reticulated dragon moves well; there appears to be a repair with wire and the shaft is slightly bent.

On a carved and pierced wooden stand.Stand; height: 1 in x width: 3 1/4 in x depth: 2 in. Jade; height: 7 in x width: 4 in x depth: 1 3/4 in.Condition: Wear throughout. Dust has collected in the recessed areas but can be cleaned. Throughout the item, there are natural lines visible as expected; along the natural lines, there are discoloration as shown in the listing image. There is a loss to the fabric carving to left of the larger female figure. There is a crack on the back of the shorter female's head. There is a crack along the right shoulder of the smaller female figure. There is restoration to the hair accessory of the larger female figure and lines of restoration along the back of the neck. There is a minute chip to the left bottom corner near the smaller female's foot. There is an inscription along the bottom of the sculpture. Throughout the underside of the base there is adhesive residue; please see listing image. Along the top, there is wear to the finish. There is wear throughout the base as expected from age.

The carving has a cup along the back of the figure.Height: 3 in x width: 4 1/4 in x depth: 2 in.Condition: The piece is in good condition with no chips or losses. There is one large crack along the beast's back extending about an inch down each side, and another crack along the left horn. Both cracks fluoresce under UV light. A few light scratches to the feet. Light wear throughout.

Lot 184

A modern Chinese lacquered and jade inlaid chest of drawers with a lift top and two doors beneath. The decoration depicts scholars objects and boys playing. The sides have delicate lacquered decoration of flowers and gardens. Drawers and doors are fitted with high quality brass or copper fittings.Height: 36 1/2 in x width:24 1/2 in x depth: 16 in.Condition: No major chips, cracks, or losses. Structurally sturdy; however, the furniture does not appear structurally the most stable but it slightly wobbles. Doors open and close smoothly. Wear throughout and minute losses along the edges. Oxidation to the metal components. There is a minute dent to the upper right quadrant of the top. Along the left side, there are two areas that show unstable surface. To the front of the top, there is an area that lost its finish and was painted over. Along the underside, near the feet, there are line cracks; please see the listing image. Along the interior of the top, there are light line cracks along the edges. Along the interior, there are white pen marks. To the front of the cabinet, there are visible glues along the marble decorations; however, given that they are not fluorescent under UV light, they do not appear to be a restoration. Wear along the underside, consistent with age and use.

Chinese carved banded agate snuff bottle with a jade and silver stopper. With taotie-style masks carved along two sides.Provenance: From the Estate of C. Curtis "Curt" Dunnavan, Long Lake, Minnesota.C. Curtis "Curt" Dunnavan (1926-2022) was a passionate world traveler and avid collector. It was through his travels that he was inspired to begin a lifelong relationship with the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia), becoming a major sponsor of the institute and facilitating the growth of their Asian art department, which is now one of the best in the country. His generous donations to Mia allowed them to establish a fund for the Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer, one of the few endowed positions of this type in the museum field. He additionally served as a trustee of the institute, advocating for its operational growth. In its turn, the museum established a gallery named in his honor in recognition for his endowment fund and numerous contributions to their collection. The selections here showcase his talent and breadth of collecting, ranging from ancient statues to 19th-century woodblock prints. Group of three small Chinese carved jade objects including: one celadon jade lychee pendant; one white jade phoenix, and one white jade pendant in the form of a bat.Height ranges 1 1/4 in to 1/2 in; width ranges 1 1/4 to 2 1/4 in; depth ranges 2 in to 1 1/4 in.Condition: There are no major cracks or losses to the items. Dust has collected in the recessed areas of the items, but is able to be cleaned. Natural lines visible as expected; along the natural lines, there is discoloration. There is a minute chipping along the edge of the lychee. There is a white accretion beneath the stem. There are natural lines visible as expected; along the natural lines, there is discoloration as expected. The bat has a minor crack along the left lower wing. There is an area that is discolored whiter along the backside of the item, measuring approximately 1/2 in. The phoenix has a minute drill hole near the center of one side, which is discolored dark. The other side has a minute crack along the lower half. No visible signs of restoration under UV light on any item.
