A CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE MODEL OF A RECUMBENT KYLIN QING DYNASTY OR LATER Resting on a bed of cloud scrolls, its head on its outstretched forepaws and its curving spine protruding slightly, the bushy tail curling around its body, a gnarled lingzhi fungus clasped in its jaws, raised on an openwork hardwood stand carved with lingzhi, the stone with russet markings, 5.7cm. A SMALL CHINESE WHITE JADE ZHADOU, 18TH CENTURY The flared rim with a high polish above a compressed circular body with a slightly matt surface, 5.7cm. Provenance: Lt. Col. Edmund Whitehead (1870-1945), an interpreter for the British Army who served in Beijing c.1890, and thence by descent. Cf. Christie’s Hong Kong, 28th May 2014, lot 3565 for another white jade zhadou.
# A CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE INCENSE BURNER AND COVER, 18TH CENTURY The oval body raised on four short feet, carved in shallow relief with a band of taotie masks amongst C-scrolls, with two loose-ringed handles, the cover with petals radiating from the oval knop, the stone with cream mottling, 13.8cm. A CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE BOULDER CARVING, QING DYNASTY Carved in shallow relief as a mountain, one side depicting a scholar and an attendant crossing a bridge under a pine tree, a distant pagoda visible amongst clouds, with an inscription for longevity which reads nan shan zhu shou tu, cheng shang xian shou le diao tian, yuan zhang, the reverse with a deer beneath a tree and an extensive poem by Du Fu, the stone with russet markings, raised on a fitted wood stand, 10cm. (2) Provenance: the Benveniste collection, Montreal. Purchased from the Gurie Gallery in 1961.

A FINE CHINESE WHITE JADE SNUFF BOTTLE, 1750-1820 The ovoid body carved in shallow relief with a large fruit issuing from a gnarled branch with a smaller fruit to one side, each decorated with geometric designs, a single bat in flight beneath them, the base with a mark which reads yu pu (precious jade), 6.4cm.
