A CHINESE FAMILLE VERTE PLATE, Kangxi (1662-1722), of shaped circular form, centrally painted with a couple on horseback chasing hares within a floral border, 21.2cm dia. The base with Yue (jade) mark in underglazed blue within double concentric circle. Condition report: A very good example throughout
A CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE "TWO CRABS" DISH, Qing Dynasty, 18th/19th century, carved in relief with two confronting crabs, the underside incised with a branch of fruiting prunus, 7.4cm long x 5cm wide x 0.9cm deep. Provenance: Diana Barnham (b.1919) and thence by descent. Condition report: The piece appears to be in good overall condition with no chips or cracks. There are some natural brownish inclusions which occur particularly in the rim of the piece. One front pincer on one crab appears to be truncated but in our opinion is natural to the design.
A CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE CHILONG CUP, of ogee outline, the stone with soft polish and slightly mottled inclusions, on a carved hardwood lotus stand enriched with fruiting peaches, a bat and shou medallion, Qing Dynasty, 17th/18th century, 9cm wide x 4cm high. The stand 10.5cm wide. Condition report: The cup is good overall with no cracks or chips, two small grazes on the inside of the cup at the angle of the well, three of the lotus petals are chipped off, several tips of the leaves are chipped off and general small losses and stress cracks.
A CHINESE MOTTLED PALE CELADON JADE PENDANT centrally carved with a peony, within a lozenge and angular motifs, late Qing Dynasty, 19th century, 7.3cm x 7.8cm. Provenance: Diana Barnham (b.1919) and thence by descent. Condition report: One angle of the pendant has very small chip and a small flake. One other angle has a small chip. A third angle has one ground angle.
A CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE SNUFF BOTTLE, the stone with mottled white inclusions, 5.1cm high x 3cm dia. and a pale celadon bat and cashcoin pendant, 4.3cm wide, both late Qing Dynasty (2). Provenance: Diana Barnham (b.1919) and thence by descent. Condition report: The snuff bottle with a tiny rim chip (filled with resin). The pendant with some general grazing and small chipping along the upper rims, particularly on the bats flying scarf.
A FINE CHINESE PALE CELADON JADE GU VASE, Qing Dynasty, carved in archaic style with pointed leaf tips and panels enclosing taotie masks, 27.3cm high, on a carved and silver wire inlaid hardwood oval stand, 9cm wide x 4cm high. The exceptionally fine "eggshell" nature of the present vase may be compared to the so-called Mughal jades produced in the reign of Qianlong. The comparison also extends to the archaistic carved ornament and the soft polish associated with jades produced in the 18th century. Provenance: A noble European collection. Condition report: Good overall, but small crack (possibly natural), circa 1cm long. The stand: the upper section was formerly glued to the base and has come loose (but with no damage), there are dry cracks noticeable on the stand.
A CHINESE CELADON JADE QUATREFOIL BOWL , Qing Dynasty, 18th century, of plain decoration except for a raised rim line, octagonal panelled, raised on scroll edged diminutive pierced feet, the stone with opaque white mottled inclusions,, 21.2cm wide x 6.4cm high. With label "On Loan to the University of York (Arts Collection) 342". Condition report: Several very tiny blemishes/minute chips on the top rim, almost unnoticeable except with an eyeglass (three of the feet have very slight rubbing to the tips of their points.
A CHINESE CARVED IVORY FONDLING PIECE, Qing Dynasty, probably 18th century, accurately carved as a small section of flowering prunus, bark and branches, 3.7cm high; a Chinese jade tubular toggle in archaistic Han style, fashioned as a pig, 4.1cm long; and a Chinese cinnabar lacquer lidded box, early 20th century, carved with peonies in high relief, 7.4cm dia.(3) Condition report: Fine old patina and old drying cracks. Toggle: good condition throughout. Cinnabar box: good condition throughout.
A PAIR OF CHINESE CARVED HARDWOOD AND INLAID HEXALOBE STANDS, Republic period, each with leaf tip repeat carved frieze over spandrels centred by jade inlaid coin motifs flanked by bats, on grooved pegs, 88cm high x 48.5cm dia. Provenance: Private collection, Knightsbridge. Condition report: Stand 1: Slight cracking to the panelled tops, surface lacquer deteriorating and some scratches, one spandrel loose and requiring regluing. Stand 2: Similar to preceding with larger crack across the centre panel.
FOUR SNUFF BOTTLES WITH STANDGroup of four Chinese snuff bottles, each ovoid in shape and between 1 3/4" and 2 3/4"tall. One is white ceramic with famille rose-style decorations and a green stone stopper, while the remaining three are of carved stone: one of amethyst with a matching stopper, decorated with carved flowers; the second of dark brown agate with a green stone stopper, decorated with a carved figure of a cat or tiger; and the third of milky white stone, possibly jade or jadeite, with a green stone stopper, decorated with a carving of a dragon. These bottles were used to carry snuff tobacco, which was permitted in nineteenth-century China for nominally medicinal purposes, while other forms of tobacco were outlawed. All are very good. Also present is a carved wooden stand with spaces for each bottle.
MODERN JADE, ETC. CHOPS AND FIGRESGroup of four carved stone "chops", or stamps, each between 3" and 4 1/2" tall, with two depicting Chinese-style lions, and the remainder depicting a smiling Buddha and an old hermit. Three of the four bear carved seals at the base, with one showing a woman's name in English letters. Of modern manufacture. Fine.

A FINE SMALL CHINESE WHITE JADE SHUANG LIAN BOX AND COVER, 18TH CENTURY With two conjoined ovoid compartments, the cover mirroring this design, carved in shallow relief with a pair of interlocking circular rings, each containing a bat in flight, the stone an even tone with russet mottling to the cover, 5.5cm. A CHINESE CIRCULAR JADE-MOUNTED HAND MIRROR, QING DYNASTY The handle formed from a pale celadon jade belthook with a dragon’s head terminal, flanked by two bats, the mirror backed by a pale celadon reticulated plaque with a central articulated shou character, encircled by coloured stones set into silver-coloured metal decorated in relief with incense burners and vases, 18.8cm overall. Provenance: the Benveniste collection, Montreal. Purchased in the 1960s and ‘70s.
