HALL, CUMBERLAND A SCARCE 12-BORE PINFIRE PATENT CLOCK ALARM-GUN, MODEL 'HALL'S PATENT', no visible serial number, circa 1890, with hinged rectangular galvanised casing measuring approximately 15 1/4in. x 11 1/2in. x 8in. and standing on iron bar feet, the lift up front hinged panel stencilled with the legend 'J. HALL'S PATENT CLOCK GUN STATION ROAD WORKS, WIGTON CUMBERLAND', the reverse with 'DANGER', the internal face of panel bearing a paper instruction label, the mechanism comprised of twelve dropping weights held aloft by thin twine and in turn attached to a recumbent clockwork mechanism, the conventional hands replaced with a knife blade cutting the twine at the pre-selected times allowing the weight to discharge one of twelve horizontally mounted pinfire blanks, iron parts of mechanism lightly rusted, clock apparently functioning and complete with a number of wooden dowel dummy weights for static display.
