Thomas, Paris striking the hours and quarters with three hammers on two gongs, the 2.25" principle dial signed E. Thomas, Her de la Marine de l'Etat, 10 rue la Boetie, Paris, with moon phase and seconds hand, over three subsidiary alarm, days of the week and days of the month dials, within a gilt mask, with Sonnerie/silence/Grande Sonnerie and moon phase selection levers to the base, within an ornate stepped case cast with caryatids to each corner, surmounted by an ornate handle cast with dolphins, 8.25" high; also with original Morocco leather travelling case (key) *The maker of this clock was primarily involved in the manufacture of nautical instruments for the French Navy and was the founder of Auricoste who still continue in business today making military watches. Fine Drocourt gilded brass porcelain panelled repeater carriage clock with alarm, the movement back plate stamped with the maker's trademark logo, striking the hours and quarters with two hammers on a gong, stamped no. 11357 to the movement back plate and base, the principle dial over a subsidiary seconds dial gilded and painted with a seated piper in a rural landscape, also painted with musicians playing musical instruments in formal gardens to either side, within a foliate engraved gorge style case surmounted by an ornate handle, 6.5" high (key) (request condition report) ** See Derek Roberts - Carriage and other Travelling Clocks, page 127, where this actual clock is illustrated.
Fine French repeating enamelled panelled carriage clock with alarm, the movement striking the hours on one gong and the alarm on another, the back plate fitted with an enamel alarm dial and stamped no. 1248, the 2.25", the gilded chapter ring within an enamelled panel painted and gilded with flowers and musical trophies on a burgundy ground, the enamelled sides inset with finely painted head and shoulder profile portraits of young ladies on ivory, within a breakfront gorge style case with silvered barley twist columns with Corinthian capitals, surmounted by a bevelled glazed rectangular escapement window and carrying handle, 8" high** description amendment - enamelled panels and not porcelain, the oval inset panels are painted on ivory and the movemnet strikes the hours only.

A good 19th century gilt and plated brass carriage clock with repeat and alarm, the segmented porcelain dial with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute track, subsidiary alarm dial beneath, with a pierced foliate gilt metal mask with silvered lions rampant, the decorative silver plated case with foliate handle and gilt metal panels to sides with military trophies, the twin train movement striking the hours and half hour on a gong, numbered '2019', 6in. (15.25cm.) high plus handle.* Provenance: Martel Maides Auctions, 25th Nov. 2004, Lot 230** The clock winds and runs. However, the chiming mechanism does not wind - it spins without winding and we suspect therefore that the spring is broken to that train. Chip to two corners of the back glass. The brass parts of the case are tarnished and there is wear to the bronzed patination on the columns. Minor wear to plating on corners of base and some wear to plating on handle. 1cm scratch to centre of porcelain dial towards 1.30. Please see photos to assess originality of the escapement.

Andrews, Cornhill, London, the balloon-shaped crossbanded satinwood case with floral inlay to the front, a shaped pagoda top with brass finial and standing on brass bracket feet, height 55cm.* Biography Quite probably Richard Andrews apprenticed 1798.
