Local Interest - Walnut-cased 30-hour brass dial long case clock, of small proportions, the eight-inch break-arched dial signed to the arch Geo'e Williams, Axbridge, over Roman hours and Arabic minutes framing engraved swags and lobed flower head-engraved alarm dial, all within foliate scroll spandrels, the movement striking on a bell via a chain-driven pully, the slender figured walnut case with fat hood and sunken columns over feather-banded long trunk door and crossbanded base, 208cm high Literature - Bellchambers, J.K., 'Somerset Clockmakers' p.67 records a George Williams working 1791-5 'Described in Directories as watchmaker. Perhaps from Bristol' Condition: In our opinion, whilst the dial and engraving appear to be period, and the movement has age, other parts of this clock are of a later date including the strike-work. Brass dial appears to have been repolished. Alarm dial possibly a later addition. Backing boards to trunk appear to be period but other timbers would look to be later or reveneered. Minor blistering and lifting to veneer of panel base, otherwise sound. Sold with brass 30-hour weight and small counter-weight, trunk key, crank winder and brass-faced 30-hour pendulum. **We do not guarantee the movement or accuracy of clocks - Please see extra images and TELEPHONE department if you require further information.
