Holingue Frères, a French Gorge carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement having a silvered platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, with push button repeat of the last hour at will, the backplate stamped with the serial number 5585 with the frontplate stamped with the initials H.L. for the maker Holingue frères, the white enamel dial having black Roman numerals, a subsidiary alarm dial, blued steel moon hands and signed for the retailer G. Taylor & Son, Paris, the gorge case with typical five-bail handle, height 17.5 cms (handle up) 14.5cms (handle down).* Biography Jean-Francois and the younger Louis Holingue were the sons of the carriage clock maker Jean Baptiste and worked in the clockmaking town of Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont, near to Dieppe, producing the rough movements for a number of well-known makers including Paul Garnier and Bolviller. Grignon Meusnier, a French mantel clock with calendar: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel, the backplate stamped with the maker's details Grignon Meusnier, Paris, Breveté, 117, the skeletonised dial having a white enamelled chapter ring with black Roman numerals and blued-steel moon hands, with the balance to the movement visible within the centre along with a silvered alarm setting disc and winding arbor, with three further subsidiary dials set below within the case depicting the day, month and date, the gilt-metal case of scroll form and surmounted by a cast matching handle, the case numbered 117 and stamped with the initials G.M. to the decorative rear, height 19cms.* Biography The founder Pierre Grignon is recorded as working in Paris from the mid-18th century. By circa 1860 the business was known as Grignon Meusnier recorded at rue Charlot 60 in the heart of the clockmaking region of the city. In 1853 they had been granted a patent for the fitting of a movement pendulum (balance).
An Art Deco Jaeger LeCoultre travelling alarm clock, in painted metal faux tortoiseshell and brass case with flip front, manual wind, the rectangular brushed brass dial with luminous Arabic numerals and hands, appears to be in working condition, dial 4.3cm by 4.3cm, 6 by 8 by 8cm when deployed, 6 by 2.5 by 8.5cm when folded.
