J.B. Hobbs, Surrey and England. ‘Farewell Dinner to J.B. Hobbs. To commemorate his retirement from County Cricket’ The Dorchester Hotel, London, 17th July 1935. Arranged by ‘The Star’ newspaper. Large official menu, with original decorative covers and cord tie, with tribute by Neville Cardus, Toasts, table plan, after Dinner entertainment, guest list and two photographs, one of the ‘Hobbs Gates’ at The Oval, the other one of Hobbs, head and shoulders. The menu measures 8.5”x11.5”. Signed to back cover in pencil by twenty one guests including G. Allen, Garland Wells, Duckworth, J.R. Mason, F. Brown, Brooks, Clay, Langridge, Strudwick, Squires, Gregory, Sandham, Hearne, Fishlock, Mobey, Whitfield etc. In original titled folder. Some light marks to covers otherwise in good/very good condition

Card with laid down signatures of the Gloucestershire team who tied with the Australians at the County Ground, the only tie on record, with printed team picture above. Eleven signatures on snips including Dipper, Hammond, Seabrook, Barnett, Goddard, Parker, Dacre, Neale etc. G
Australian tour of India & Ceylon 1935-36. Singhalese Sports Club Dinner to the Maharajah of Patiala’s Australian Cricketers 1935. Official decorative menu for the Dinner held in the S.S.C. Pavilion on the 29th October 1935. The menu with club emblem and titles to front cover with mauve and blue ribbon bow tie. Menu and Toast list to inside pages. Signed to rear two pages by forty guests including members of the Ceylon and Australian teams. Signatures include Ryder, Tarrant, Ironmonger, Hendry, Nagel, Wendell-Bill, Bryant, Morrisby, Alexander, Macartney, Ellis, Oxenham, Mendis, Gunasekera, de Saram, Kelaart, Buultijens, Jayawickreme etc. Extremely rare menu form the tour. Minor fault to rear cover otherwise in good condition. This was one of Bryant’s menus This was a secondary tour by Australia whose “first team” had gone to South Africa. The team in India and Ceylon therefore played first-class matches only and not Test cricket. The team was managed by Frank Tarrant and captained by Jack Ryder and included Charlie Macartney, Bert Ironmonger, Hunter Hendry and Lisle Nagel. The tour began in October 1935 in Colombo with one first-class match against Ceylon which the Australians won by an innings and 127 runs. From November 1935 to February 1936, the team played 16 first-class matches in India, including four matches against an All-India XI

Accessories include a pair of brown leather heeled mary jane shoes; pair of kid leather gloves and three pairs of brown and cream crochet gloves; brown crepe bag with faux tortoiseshell handle; brown satin evening purse with beaded mount and printed chiffon handkerchief.
