SLIM WILLIAM: (1891-1970) British Field Marshal of World War II. A.L.S., Slim, two pages, 4to, Windsor Castle, 6th March 1967, to Mr. Flinton, on the printed stationery of the Governor's Office. Slim thanks his correspondent for their invitation to an annual dinner although regrets that he can not attend as he already has an official engagement on the same evening. He continues 'I well remember visiting the Maroondah Dam. I can still spot a Guards tie and even without one I think I can recognise the way an ex-guardsman stands and carries himself whatever he is wearing'. A minor paperclip rust stain to the upper left corner and a couple of minor, light stains to the lower edge of the first page, none of which affect the text or signature, otherwise VG Slim served as Constable and Governor of Windsor Castle from 1964-70.
