A 1920s French advertising automaton of a man drinking beer by Gustave Vichy (Vichy-Triboulet). Comprising a figure of a man of wood and plaster construction sitting on a stool wearing an Edwardian tailcoat, waistcoat and bow-tie and holding a mug and bottle of beer. Much of the wire and lever mechanism is present, however the outer case of the base is missing and the figure's legs are detached. Restoration and reconstruction is needed to many parts. £200-300
A German elephant mystery clock, c.1900The standing patinated spelter figure of an elephant with raised trunk suspending a gilt metal pendulum with white enamel dial and black Arabic numerals with ribbon tie questing and pierced work. Extended pendulum raised on a kidney shaped wooden base, 20cm high.
•STANLEY ANDERSON, CBE, RA (1884-1966) SELF PORTRAIT Engraving, 1933, signed in pencil, with an additional dedication in another hand, unframed 20 x 16.5cm. Provenance: Leslie Hunt (or Hurst), 1934 * This print was made at the peak of Anderson's career. Here he belies his allegedly shy reticence and he looks confident, combining an artisan's smock with a dapper silk bow tie. References to Titian, Rembrandt and Durer have been seen in this pose: even the lettered ledge is an acknowledgement of 16th century illusionism. ++ Very good condition
Circa 1900 ENGLISH SCHOOL "Young Man in Wing Collar and Black Tie, Waistcoat and Jacket", a portrait study head and shoulders, oil on canvas, unsigned CONDITION REPORTS Appears basically sound with no ripping to the canvas though some minor blemishes to the canvas top left and right where the frame meets and some slight scratching bottom left 75cm tall and and 59cm wide.
SOUTH ATLANTIC MEDAL to S J Bentley Mercantile Marine - undertook Royal Marine Commando training. Stephen John Bentley was born on the 19th of September 1953. He left school aged 14 and joined the Training Ship HMS Indefatigable, he was trained as a Deckhand and joined the Mercantile Marine. On the 28th of November 1972, he joined the Royal Marines and undertook recruit training. On the 21st February 1973, he left recruit training and resumed his service in the Mercantile Marine. On 28th December 1975, he visited Buenos Aires and a ticket/visa is included with the group. Bentley served with the Cunard Line and may have been on SS Atlantic Causeway or SS Atlantic Conveyor. The conveyor was hit by Exocet Missiles on the 25th May 1982, killing 12 sailors. The ship later sunk undertow. A Christmas card from Cs Iris is included with the group, but it is unclear when he served on the ship. CS Iris did serve in the conflict The medal comes with a number of pieces of original ephemera, including his Royal Marine Company Record Book, letter from ROAB informing him that he has been accepted, RAOB Rules & Regulation book, Cunard line hat, Indefatigable cap tally, RFA Tie, Falkland Island tankard and photograph of the recipient as a young boy. The medal is with original box, wax packet and transmittal slip. Engraved in the correct large letter style. Condition = EF
18th Century Irish SchoolA half length "Portrait of Captain John Odell, with large wig, white neck tie, green velvet jacket, and lace cuff," O.O.C., 79cms x 64cms (31" x 25"), in narrow gilt frame. (1)* The Odell Family: Capt. John Odell, born about 1713, was son of William Odell and his wife Anne, nee Hunt, the daughter of Henry Bayler of Lough Gur, Co. Limerick and was the father of Col. William Odell. * Purchased at The Castletown Cox Sale 1991.
